Wednesday's Wide Awake Morning

  • MissouriFarmWife 5 years ago
The no-sleep fairy visited again, or at least I think it did. I woke up at 2:51 and am still awake at 5:02. One class of cranberry juice later, the laptop beckoned! Unlike last night, my horrid internet did not claim to be unable to find the server so here I am. (Wayne, sitting next to me, also using a MAC laptop, had no problem accessing the web. I HATE CenturyLink internet!)

I think we are going to have to double time the mouse traps. A rather small one sneaked up the steps and ventured into the hall. I had noticed for about an hour that Fritz was antsy, and both Mauser and Mel were not acting quite normal -- pacing, swatting each other. Mauser made the catch, and strolled up the hall with mouse in mouth, very proud. Fritz snatched it away. Wayne removed deceased mouse and disposed of it. Animal behavior returned to normal.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Set a trap for that darn No Sleep Fairy while you're at it Karen!!!!

It is a bright sunshiny day here in Thunder Bay. I think we'll be running into rain showers as we head to Rainy River though. (Again, apropos) LOLOLOL.

Gonna try leave here by 9 which will get us in to Fort Frances where I will do a grocery shop by 1 p.m. Not that I have very much room at all for any grocery bags inside the car. We are packed to the hilt!!! There is a time change that occurs in Atikokan so we gain an hour and it'll only actually be noon when we arrive in FF. Rainy is an hour from Fort so we're looking at 1:30-2 RR time. Don't know what is going to greet us. Is the water going to work? Will the hot water work? Will the heat still be on or will we have run out of propane? Cross your fingers for us!!!

As I said, there's no way I can buy all the groceries I need in FF as they won't fit in the car so that means I'll probably need to go to the grocery store in RR as well once we get the car unpacked. Don't know what I can whip up for dinner. We'll stop off at the Senior's apartments to let Mom know we've arrived but she won't want to come out to the house until it has warmed up. LOL.

I want to do some baking for Easter and get a pot of soup made asap. Lots to do. Didn't sleep the greatest last night as I was excited and kept thinking of all I needed to get done.

Wishing everyone a great day. Again, we have no internet at the house so I usually just compose my post and then it gets sent whenever I get a chance to stop by the library in town and use their free wifi. (Which luckily leaks out the walls so you can park outside and still access it) :)

    Happy Trails!

Aw too bad the no sleep fairy is visiting you, Karen. I thought I had captured her but I guess she escaped. I know for certain she hasn't been here for a couple of days as I have been sleeping pretty good for the last few nights for a change. Lol @ the mouse antics at your house lately. Hopefully you will get a nap in today.

Sending safe un complicated travel and arrival in RR today, Janet. Crossing fingers everything in the house is working just fine and that you can find enough room in the car for all your groceries. Your Mom will be delighted to see you!

Not much happening here again today but it is supposed to be nice again today. It was beautiful when I was out and about yesterday. We are probably going to have Weiner Schnitzel for dinner tonight with creamy chive potatoes and steamed asparagus with Hollandaise sauce.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone.

The 'no-sleep' fairy was bothering me last night too. I just couldn't fall asleep and was up till about 3:00 or so.
DH has a routine doctor appointment this afternoon. Not sure if we will eat at home or go out after. Probably we will eat at home since we ate out last night. Went to an Italian restaurant we've been to once before but probably won't go back to. It was 'so-so' both times.
I never did make the Braciole so I will get to that today. I'll get it rolled this morning so I can cook it over night tonight. After eating Italian yesterday (chix parm) I just had no desire.

Hope you are able to get a nap in today Karen. Mice vs. Pets … I'm glad the pets are winning and doing their job. Glad too the boars are not showing up on your property, they are mean critters. Do let us know how you like your AirFryer and what your first meal is.

Hope everything is good when you get to the house today Janet and everything is working. So sorry to hear about Jim's dad. I hope they can do something to keep him comfortable. Does your new car have a roof rack? or does everything you need to transport have to be within the car?

Good for you Joce that you are sleeping! The 'no-sleep' fairy has visited you long enough.

It's going to be a nice day here. Sky is blue, temps are good, and the humidity is low.

Morning! So sorry you barely got sleep last night Karen :(. Hopefully you'll catch a nap at some point today. OMG on another mouse! At least it got caught.

Crossing my fingers for you Janet that you arrive to hot running water and electricity! Safe travels and hope you are able to get everything done, drink lots of coffee!

Your dinner sounds delicious Joce :)

Fun on Braciole for dinner Linda, I've never had or made it before, but it's something I'd like to try! Good luck to DH at the doctor's.

We have had multiple gorgeous days lately, but today it's dark and gloomy again :(. Wonder if it's supposed to rain? Going grocery shopping today. Getting stuff to make chicken and dumplings since that's one of everyone's favorite meals. Have a hectic evening so I'll get it made early and everyone can just eat as they have time. Have a great day everyone!

So sorry to hear about Jim's Dad, Janet. I missed that post from yesterday:( I hope they can get things under control.

Bummer that the no sleep fairy has been visiting you too, Linda. enjoy your Braciole tonight, it sounds delightful.

I have never had chicken and dumplings that I can remember, Michelle. You are always so busy! Did you hear any news with the guy and the truck yet?

Braciole is made and it really is not a hardship to make. I don't know why I don't venture making it more often. Probably because DH won't eat it but it freezes well. It just takes long to cook. It's one of those things you simmer in sauce for a few hours on a Sunday but I'm using the crock pot and started them anyhow. They should be done around 7:00 or so tonight.
I haven't made them in forever so I hope the 6 rolls are enough to flavor the sauce. I used 1 standard can of whole peeled tomatoes. If it doesn't it'll be easy enough to tweek the sauce after.

Chicken and dumplings is something I've never made Michelle but want to. I know I would enjoy it and only one way to find out if DH will. He showed me a picture of a recipe a few weeks ago and I told him I would make it. The recipe he showed me used a rotisserie chicken which would be ideal because most of the work would be done. Do you make the thin flat dumplings or the fluffy ones?

Hoping the house is still heated, Janet! And that you have hot water...LOL! Do you turn off the water so pipes don’t break when it is left vacant in the winter?

Joce, I thought I heard rapid wing flapping and muttering last night....maybe the fairy was miffed at just escaping from your trap! It is windy here and cloudy. Storms may go through in the early morning.

Michelle, do you make fluffy dumplings or flat ones. I like both but the fluffy ones are really good! The only ones I ever tried to make were from the Bisquick package. Oops....just saw Linda asked the same question!

Linda, that fairy woke me up just after letting you fall asleep, if you take the time zones into consideration. How fast do they fly anyhow? Hope your DH likes chicken and dumplings!

AC just yowled at the front door. When I went to check, he had a live lizard in his mouth and wanted to bring it indoors. Finally got him away from the poor critter and it escaped, although it was slightly injured, I think it will survive. He stormed inside, tail flipping, and complained mightily! Spring is coming, I can tell.their hunting instinct is increasing. Fritz just yiped bevause he could not figure out what was going on outside.

The guys are outdoors. A friend of his buddy’s is buying some round bales of hay to feed his young bulls / steers in a coral because they can’t be out with the cows in the field. So that should take a couple of hours.

    See you later.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Hoping all is well at the house Janet. And so sorry to hear of Jim's dad not doing well. Prayers and thoughts for you all. My sleep was a bit iffy last night but of my own accord. Like Janet, I just have so much on my mind to get done yet for Easter and couldn't shut the brain off! Good to hear you have been sleeping better Joce!

We went out last night with our friends, unexpectedly, to try a new place we had heard about called The Little Lamb. https://www.thelittlelambgastropub.com/menu At our last wine pairing dinner at Carmel's, we got talking to four very nice young men that were seated next to us. They all work at the Little Lamb restaurant and suggested we try it. As you can see, the menu is very small and what I would say as a bit odd. My friend Sondra had the Corvina which she said was excellent and finished her plate (something she rarely does, lol), Hubs had the Lamb Juicy Lucy and quite liked it. Allan and I had the house burger with fries. Which he liked but unfortunately mine was a bit to rare for my taste. I had asked for medium like I always do but this came out a bit to bloody and upset my system. Had it been a steak I could have dealt with it but not burger. And since I never send anything back I ate half and just finished the fries so was full enough.

    Taco night here tonight.

Hope all enjoy the rest of their day and please...............Sleep Sweet All..................as always.
