wet wednesday

good morning everybody. it's really yucky weather here in the ottawa valley this morning. high winds and snow pellets overnight and then freezing rain this morning. supposed to get quite warm this afternoon and just switch to rain. quit warm being 9C/48F. :)

had a nice poached egg for breakfast. going out for dinner tonight with friends to
    https://www.lonestartexasgrill.com/
bring on the fajitas and frozen margaritas. (we never order anything else as we're addicted)

i have my first physio this afternoon and just after lunch we're supposed to get a visit from the service people for our cold climate heat pump. knock on wood it's been working tickety-boo for the past year but they want to come by and upgrade some software?/communications module? anywhooo....as long as it's still working after they've gone i'm good. :)

got an email from benjamin last night and he is enjoying his time off work for chinese new year. he's having some stress over his boss. too long and complicated of a story to share, suffice to say that there are times i wish he'd just move back to this side of the world and work at a more stable, secure position.

a cousin of mine lent me this neat little machine and software that allows a person to transfer their slides into jpeg format on the computer so i've been having fun with that.

sens lost again last night. it hasn't been very enjoyable to watch this season.

i'm going to post a couple of pics of our pond so you can see it michelle. sorry to everyone on fb who will have seen them already. the 3rd pic, of jim in his sens jersey, was taken a couple of years ago. :)

wishing everyone a happy hump day!

the fish tacos turned out pretty good last night although the pan fried haddock was a bit blah. i just coated it with pepper, old bay seasoning and flour. next time i'll try jazz it up with some mexican flavours? chili, cumin, etc.

so glad you feel better michelle and all the power to you going for a work out right after! that ring for bri is so sweet. she'll love it. how'd your gumbo turn out? it sounds delicious.

that balsmic chicken you were going to make last night shona sounds yummy. how did it turn out?

yum on your stuffed pork tenderloin and scalloped potatoes joce. i haven't made scalloped potatoes in forever.

you got a great deal on everything at the honey farm laurie! lucky!!!

you had a busy day yesterday karen. our pond is only a couple of feet deep so no danger if one would fall through the ice. :) when i was very young and lived in b.c. a couple of my schoolmates went through the ice in a pond and drowned. just horrifying.

Your pictures were great - such a pretty scene. How far from your house is it?

How terrible to fall through the ice! So sad to lose two young lives.

I hope Benjamin's job atmosphere improves.

I would have loved the pan fried haddock as it was, not a fan of Mexican foods except I love fajitas! And taco salad only it is minus re-fried beans.Wayne orders a burger if we do eat Mexican.

The only thing we did so far is have a couple cups of coffee -- in the LR. Wayne is feeling yukky and is in the can't sleep - coughing - woe is me stage. He feels terrible. Has not taken his Allegra yet so it will improve, at least dry up the sniffles. It seems to more sinus oriented for him.

Got to go. Mauser and Trouble just knocked over a sound bar from in front of the TV. I hollered to let them know I was NOT happy. It didn't impress them at all. However, A.C., who was in the window, jumped down and stalked out of the room, meowing at me! I guess he likes to complain.

Wow, that's a nice big pond to skate on! :) I'm glad your going to physio, I hope it will really help you! I went ten years after I broke my arm and collarbone, and it helped then as well. Enjoy your dinner out, yum, love Fajita's! Hopefully everything with Benjamin's job will be ok. I guess he doesn't miss home yet? In time, hopefully ;)

Ugh, Wayne sounds just like Pete. I hope he gets better soon! Haha, your cats are hilarious!

That's a good price for everything you got Laurie!

Thanks Joce, I get that brand of maple syrup sometimes too. I bought it on sale for $10 at the Superstore before Christmas. Right now I have a jug from Quebec, (Maple Crest Farms, I think?) regularly $15.99, on sale for $11.99. It's 1 litre. I like the dark maple syrup for it's smoky-less sweet taste for marinades and glazes on meat etc...I also make a mustard/mayo/oniony spread for wraps with a hint of the dark syrup (instead of a honey-mustard sauce) And save the light stuff for pancakes, oh and I put a drop in the kids smoothies since I use unsweetened yogurt and juice. I'm like you and usually stock up on the sales! The coffee we like is normally $16.99 a pound, but it goes on sale at various places for 11.99, so we stock-up and only ever buy it on sale! I think I have 10 pounds right now, a lot! I am a coffee snob though, can't drink anything else but Kicking Horse Coffee. ;) My only vice, I don't drink alcohol, or go to a hair salon, just so I can have my coffee, LOL! ((Makes everyone around me happier too, teehee ;))

I didn't make the chicken last night, Pete was not feeling well and wanted something bland. So I made macaroni and cheese. Tonight I plan on making it though Chicken Breasts With Garlic And Balsamic Vinegar I think the garlic will be good for him. :)
Not much going on today. I have to tackle the kitchen mess, dishes etc..since my 'dish-washer' is sick, lol ;) It's ccccold out, hoar frost on all the trees, icy roads, so I am staying put.

    Have a great day ya'll :)

Hi Shona. The chicken should be great for Pete - garlic is a great infection-fighter. Aren't men hilarious - when they do get a cold, they are miserable. When I was a kid, my brothers would moan and groan when whey were sick, but I just curled up in my room and read a book. Mom would finally have to come in my room to see if I was okay.

I love my coffee, also. I would like to try your brand, some time; if we ever do get to Canada we will look for it. We have learned to tolerate some less expensive brands, but do keep Melitta for special occasions. My ultra favorite (can't get it in the states) is Eduscho Gold, WITH CAFFEIN NOT REMOVED. No "dekaffeineer" (I know I mis-spelled it but my German is too rusty to dredge the correct spelling from the inner reaches of my brain.)

Must go make order out of chaos in the back part of the house. Laundry is waiting. Dusting is past due. LOL.

you can see the pond a bit from the house karen. the house is set back in the woods a bit and the pond is at the front of the property, so a 1-2 min. walk? poor wayne feeling so bad. :( good luck with the laundry and dusting.
benjamin says the one thing he misses in taiwan is us shona, but not 'home' per se. if you don't go to the hair salon does that mean you cut your own hair? yum on mac n' cheese. i'd eat that any time! :)

Yep, I cut my own hair. I've only been to a salon 3 times in my life, and a barbershop for a trim twice. The last time was just over 9 years ago, my mom gave me a gift card for a salon/spa. And for the first and only time in my life I had them dye my hair ( I wanted highlights). It was awful! My hair was scrunched to a big fluffy, frizzy mess. And they left the lightener on so long that my hair was platinum-white.( I have sandy to reddish blonde hair) I showed my friend (I was her maid of honor and she was getting married the following week) And she said, "eeeek, go right back to the salon and get them to tone it down!" So I did, lol. I have such curly hair, that it's best if I cut it, and it's so fine that it takes on dye very easily! (I told the colourist that too, but she got distracted by another client)
I cut the whole family's hair, the kids have never been to a barber or salon. :)

I'll have to look for that coffee next time I'm in a European market, Karen. My brother brings me back coffee from his world travels. So far I haven't liked anything he brought me, lol. He hasn't been to Germany though! I had a not so bad one from Bolivia, I didn't really care for Cuban coffee but it tasted better than anything from Hawaii. I think it really depends on how they roast it than where it comes from. The Kicking Horse is Organic and Fair Trade which is why it costs a little more. Level Ground Trading company and Ethical Beans are another brand I like if I can't get the KH on sale. I only buy the beans and grind fresh daily ;)

The pond sounds wonderful and is a nice view, good the house is back from the road, too.

Shona, I would drive quite a distance to find Eduscho Gold, but I don't think we have any markets around here that would have it. And I am not going to Germany to get it - ha ha. Jacobs Coffee is OK, not as good. We do like Melita. I don't care for going to the salon but do go every so often to get my hair cut. I have very fine hair and it a pain to try to style. I would try the KH brand if I could find it.

Michelle, pepper steak sounds great. Have a great day.

The Chicken Breasts With Garlic And Balsamic Vinegar turned out great!! I meant to buy the mushrooms for Pete, but totally forgot! So I'll add it to IMI when I make it again and have a picture. But the sauce is really, really good! And the chicken was juicy and tender, I'll definitely make it again!
