    Morning all.
Huge hiccup in health care for me. Suffice to say, I have a nightmare of phone calls ahead.

    Mexican Lasagna for dinner.
85 degrees, clear skies. I hope all are well.

Good Morning Everybody! Action packed morning on my end. We have sunshine for a change! How uplifting!
Got Jim off to work. And then the Garden Centre turned up. Can't remember if I told you we bought three trees and they were here to plant them for us. A Locust (good sized one too) and two Red Oaks. Very pleasant people. They were done all three in 50 min.
And then! There's been a shooting downtown Ottawa at the War Memorial. I walk past that every time I go downtown and often right around that time of day that it happened. Jim works like 2-3 blocks from this. An armed man with a rifle shot one of the soldiers that is on guard at the War Memorial. The soldier is at the hospital with wounds to his abdomen. 5-6 shots were fired. The gunman then drove up the street and went into the Parliament Building where police followed. I heard he was shot but right now that's unconfirmed. The Prime Minister left the Parliament buildings and is safe.
Think I am going to make Yorkshire pudding today and I have some leftover frozen roast beef that I am going to cut up and serve inside the puds with gravy over top. That's the plan anyway.
Tina, oh my goodness you have THE worst luck with your health care. Good luck with those phone calls. Your dinner sounds good.
Good Luck with your trip to Chico Marie.
Have a good walk Karen. You guys don't have cellphones? I thought I was the only one. :)

Janet - cell phones here are a MAYBE thing as far as working. AT&T replaced a tower nearby but used a less powerful one so our service is the pits. We have them but they are a real pain.

He was only a few hundred yards away and as it turned out I did not have to go the whole way downhill because they had to return repair parts for the Gator -- wrong ones ordered - and were on their way back. So message delivered and the two of them are off to return the parts. I don't envy the parts guy - this is NOT the first time parts have been mis-ordered. Our GS is outside mowing and will be weed whacking also. He is anxious to earn some cash.

Prayers for the soldier for his recovery. Wow! So close to home!

Beeper is going off for the potato soup so I have to go finish that. We are having potato soup and cornbread and apple pear crisp for dessert. Figure on a cool day all will be hungry.

Have been in contact with both Jim and Benjamin. Benj is worried of course as I'd be if there were gunmen four blocks away from him. The doors to Jim's building have been locked and they have been placed in lock down and are not allowed to leave the building. I'm sure he'll be fine. The Police just don't want silly citizens wandering around getting in their way. So far there have been three shootings including the soldier at the War Memorial. Such a scary thing for our town.

This is so crazy Janet! Oh my gosh, so alarming! I just heard the soldier shot at the war memorial died, so sad :( And at least 3 others in hospital. They killed the gunman, but still looking in case there is another gunman? I hope Jim is not stuck downtown all night!!

Hi all! Wishing you luck today Tina with the phone calls. Let us know something when you have it all figured out.

Have a good day in Chico Marie!

Hi Karen :) I couldn't live without my cell phone. We don't get very good service inside my house (tech shield on the roof) but I can still text and use internet if needed. Good thing you didn't have to make the long walk! Yum on your dinner, one of my favorite soups is baked potato soup :)

Wow those Garden Centre people work fast Janet! Omg on the shooting so close to you. That's just too scary. It's good to hear Jim's work is taking precaution. In the neighbor hood right next to us a guy shot and killed a man on his front porch that was trying to break into his house. Your dinner sounds yummy :)

    Hi Shona!!

Went to the FM this morning. They had to most beautiful ornamental squash so I bought about 7 pieces all different shapes and colors, so pretty! I dumped out my bowl of decorative balls that I have sitting on my dining room table and put the squash in there, but the bowl is bigger than I thought! Lol. I have to get more next week :) Came home and made chicken salad for lunch
Chicken Salad With Dried Cherries And Paprika but added avocado. Dinner tonight is pizza! Making my own almond flour crust and yes I'm going to put a good amount of raw cheese on mine :) Michael is excited. Going to see my Sister tonight for a quick visit. Hope everyone is having a lovely day!

A pain on the wrong parts Karen! Glad you didn't have to travel too far to track Wayne down. :) Nice to have a grandson around to do such jobs. :) Yum on Potato soup and double yum on the apple pear crisp.
Yes Shona it is scary and yes, the Soldier at the War memorial is dead. He was in his '30's guarding the Tomb of the Unknown soldier. I hope Jim's not stuck downtown either. They've cancelled the Ottawa Senators/Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game tonight. The Leafs are also locked down inside the Westin Hotel also close to the War memorial. So crazy.
You could just rumple up some newspaper or whatever and smoosh it in the bottom of your bowl and set the squash on top so it looks full Michelle. :) (Calling on my merchandising background) :) I had peanut butter toast for lunch. Gave all the leftovers from dinner to Jim for his lunch today. Sucks to be a martyr. :) Jim actually requested home made pizza for dinner but I have never, ever made a really good one so declined. Have a really good visit with your sister tonight.

So sorry for the soldier and his family. Do the police think these are just random shootings or somehow connected? I hope they find out who is behind this.
When I worked at the fort there were several "lock-downs" where no one could enter or leave..sad commentary on today's world! It is a scary place!

Wayne's buddy is on his way home and our GS is finishing up weed-eating the barnyard and the chickenless chicken yard. Dishes are in DW. I added Waynes Favorite Potato Soup that I fixed for lunch, to my GR recipes. It is time to sit down and relax until I get enough energy to make something with the apples we have left. Thought about apple soup or maybe an apple pie, if I can get motivated and my feet stop hurting. LOL.

Michelle, we can use the cellphone inside and have internet service - bad, but still internet and better than dial up! It has been terrible lately - I can't go more than two pages when searching for recipes because it says "not on this server." That is so ridiculous - it defeats the purpose of searching for a recipe! Frustrating thing is I have no idea who to complain to because they all blame someone else for the problem. The crowning problem was not being able to locate the Google.com server - ay yi yi! Aargh! Grr!

I recall when we first got cell phones - it took me forever to decide to use the thing. I still seldom text and refuse to answer mine if I am driving. The other day on the interstate we saw 3 people texting while driving! One dude almost went off the road and had to swerve back - still kept on texting! Still haven't decided whether to turn in my Gen. 3 iPhone with its Gen 4 update - so behind the times but it still works! If I do update maybe I can still check in on GR once in a while, and there are some cool apps to check your home while you are gone, but...........

The cats are ticked. I gave them tuna fish this morning, to their joy. The canned cat food from last night still upset Mel's stomach, but the tuna stayed down. A.C. said he was starving and rifled thru the sack of dry dog food just in case I would notice and give him something better to eat. I do have a can of salmon that they would like for later today. Then tomorrow I will have to pick up some special cat food for touchy tummies and UTI preventative -- oh good grief, they are like having picky kids!

When we had lunch in the sun room today, A.C. sneaked in past Wayne - he frequently does succeed getting around my hubby. I grabbed him and tossed him back in the LR, to his chagrin. Today he is playing the role of the misunderstood, sorrowful, mistreated cat who should be given freedom to roam the sun room and sharpen his claws on the furniture to his heart's content. Mel just plunked down on my arm and is trying to rearrange things so I have to type one-handed. He succeeded. I better sign off.

    See you later.

Connected Karen. They're hinting at a Muslim or Islamic terrorist. I feel bad for the Muslim community here in Ottawa. All it takes is one crazy to give a whole population a bad rep. Malala was to have been awarded Honorary Canadian Citizenship in Toronto this afternoon but Prime Minister Harper cancelled it. For everyone's safety of course. But it's still a sad state of affairs. These kinds of things don't happen here. They just don't. I shall go check out your soup recipe in just a sec. Nice for the cats on the tuna and salmon treat.

I am so sorry that the MP guard of the Tomb of the Unknown passed away. Absolutely terrifying to this happen in a peaceful Capitol. I do hope Jim gets to come home. Our news reports indicate ISIS involvement in recruiting citizens in Canada. There a dozen or so girls arrested from the Colorado area who were recruits to ISIS, they were on their way to D.C.
    Very very scary.

I've been on the phone for hours. At least we have coverage and I was afraid I had been cancelled. All payments to my physicians had been reversed and my paid deductible had vanished.

Dinner plans changed, wilted kale and onions, pierogis and kielbasa. The Mexican lasagna is still frozen solid.

    Take care dear ones.

I think we SP'd earlier somehow because if I had read your next post I would not have had to ask. Ah, so. Such is life. Shaking head.

My first thought was ISIS, esp. since the target was a soldier. ISIS has rivaled WW II Nazi Germany in scope and savagery. Radical Muslim extremism is terrifying. Their wholesale slaughter of Christian women and children is abominable. (As would that of the other minorities who are also targets.) I'm wondering also if this was planned to take attention away from Malala's award. She is such a brave girl.

I haven't heard any news today so don't really know anything except what you posted. But it does point towards a terrorist / ISIS attack. Of course, we had a home grown terrorist take down the Oklahoma Federal Building, not a Muslim.

I hope Jim is able to come home instead of spending the night at work in a lock down status.

Our police and RCMP are still not saying anything but it was leaked from the States who the gunman was.
Here's the link to the story for any who want to read it.

So did you sort out all you needed to Tina and things are okay now or do you still have more sorting out to be done? Perogies and kielbasa sound great. I'm glad I have the car tomorrow. My fridge is getting bare.
Jim just called and he's leaving. He says he 'thinks' they're allowed to leave although some of the government buildings up a few streets are still locked down. What a weird day.

Hi Tina. SP is working with us also.

Glad the coverage is still there. Health Ins. can be such a royal pain. Since the magic age of 65, we are on Medicare plus supplement. So it is different, but still a pain. I hope things get straightened out soon for you. Keep us posted.

I still have not turned on the news but I think maybe it would be a good idea.

Goodness Tina, I'm so sorry you're having these issues with health care, how frustrating for you! I hope it all works out for the better.
I'm off to our last parent teacher meeting. Was going to make chicken ranch sandwiches but chicken was still frozen, so we made perogies and kielbasa! Great minds think alike Tina, lol ;)
Have a great night everyone :)
