Wide Awake Wednesday

    Good morning.

It is O-Dark-Thirty and the sun is just beginning to peer over the horizon. Homer was outed and has returned. He is acting like he has brain fog and finally figured out I wanted him to come into the sun room. He fell asleep on his dog bed and is out cold. Poor dog. I fed Geezer, but he didn’t seem too interested and disappeared - he is acting weird, but then he has always been sort of different.

Love your pix, Janet. The tulips in the snow are so cute! Someone had a sense of humor, for sure. Wow on the roses and the good buy on pork. You had quite a busy day!

Hi, Joce. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Marie, so many people are slow at paying their bills! I just realized I owe one due the 20th so best get it sent off today ASAP, or pay on line, one. Most everything we have (that I am responsible for, anyway) is automatic withdrawal because I could never keep track of them.

Steak leftovers are the best, Michelle. I don’t often fix steak because burnt offerings don’t appeal too much. LOL. I can never get it the way we like it. Fortunately Colton’s and Sirloin Stockade and Matt’s are not far away, and depending on the budget at the time, have a variety of steaks available. Colton’s is hit and miss on whether medium rare is actually that or morphs into too well done for my liking, but when they hit the mark it is quite good.

    So cool about Frank’s coworker!

Good morning, Tina! It is always good to hear from you, regardless of whether you are cranky or not. LOL.

All my photos are on the other computer so are unavailable until I transfer them or get up and grab my thumb drive so I can access them. The red line syndrome on my old laptop is so annoying, but since it was over 7 years old I guess I got my money’s worth. It could last for 20 minutes or three years with the annoying line. The new one is a MacBook Pro, the 15 1/2 inch model, and so far I like it. It came with all the software installed, although I never use GarageBand — not musically enabled - LOL. I need to find a MacBook Pro for Computer Challenged Old Folk book to learn to do some of the cool stuff it is capable of.

Now if I can just find my password for the email I can check it again. Ha ha. I hate passwords - icky!

    Have a good day.

Good Morning Karen! Glad Homer is getting some good Doggy-Zzzzz's in the sun room. You had a busy day yesterday. That's great the generator was installed. I feel for the guy with the kidney stones. I suffer from those on occasion and it is not pleasant in the least. Weird on the red stripe across your old lap top.
Tina, it was good to see you last night and do check in whether you're cranky or not we still love you. What are you planning on doing with Fred's ashes? If you already said, I apologize for asking again. CRAFT. And if Liv's restaurant is being sold then that means Scottie's restaurant is being sold. What is he contemplating do you know?
Glad you got one check Marie. Rick had a busy day yesterday. Hope it's a little easier today.
I have no clue at this point what to make for dinner this evening. It's snowing again! Supposed to warm up a little though. I have to do up my 'book report' for next week's Library Book Chat. We are reading "My Beloved World" by Supreme Court Judge Sonia Sotomayor.
    Wishing everyone a good Wednesday.

Good morning ladies! It's a chilly morning here..40F..tee hee:) I wouldn't know how to exist in some your the temps you are are dealing with..I would probably just freeze solid and become an ice cube:)

Karen, Good luck with transferring your photos to the new computer! I am computer challenged when it comes to stuff like that! Awww, Homer sounds sweet..all cozy in the sun room:) I'm still waiting for my sun room..:(

Janet, Egads on all of the snow your getting! We have a SLIGHT chance of rain this Friday..big whoop..it probably won't even rain at all:(
Yes, Rick got home a little after 5 pm..just about a 10 hour day (he had a few interruptions, had to change out the lags that came with the door to bigger lags cause he's real picky about stuff like that, quality work and all, and the owner had a barn door he had a problem with he wanted Rick to look at, barn was packed full and Rick told him he'd take a look later, he had to get the doors & openers installed on his new house!). Poor guy was kindof stove up getting out of his truck when he got home..a couple of cocktails helped that situation out . We had a late dinner, the meatloaf was a tad bit overdone, I was trying to keep it warm on a low heat in the oven!!! It was still good though, when your hungry and tired, you tend to not be as picky!!! So FAR, he has an opener to install up here in Magalia..
I don't know what to make for dinner either, we have leftover meatloaf, but saving for sammies:) Love meatloaf sammies:)

    Joce, thinking of you dear:)

Tina, good to see you..we don't care how cranky you are, like Janet said, we love you and want to hear from you no matter what:) xoxox

I'll be going to Chico to see Mom & Dad..also picking up my new glasses..yea:)

Have a wonderful Wednesday my friends:)

Morrning!! Lol, we often over cook steak as well. Michael did these last one's a perfect medium rare though, I was proud of him :)

Hi Janet! It was snowing the other night about an hour away from us, but we didn't get any :(

It's cold outside again. Not sure when it's supposed to warm up. I can't stand the guy Michael is working for right now. I know he's doing us a favor and giving him work but I really just don't like him. He is extremely unprofessional. This morning Michael drove all the way down town just for the guy to tell him they aren't working because it's raining. It had been raining all morning, why would he not call him before he left and waste all that gas? He never lets him know when to be to work until the last second or will call the house at like 6 in the morning and wake us all up to tell him when to be there. I'ts SO ANNOYING!!! Okay, rant over. Had some problems with the pot pie last night, I'll review it in the IMI in a little bit. Pulled out some country pork ribs for dinner. Think I'm going to make this: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Oven-Roasted-Ribs/Detail.aspx?event8=1&prop24=SR_Title&e8=Quick%20Search&event10=1&e7=Recipe&soid=sr_results_p3i2 I really wanted to grill them, but it's just too cold! Hope everyone has a great day!!

SP Michelle:) I just checked the temp again, it's 39F now..seems much colder though..
UGH! I hate when someone is a slacker (that's what we call someone who doesn't do work in a professional way). How uncalled for, not calling Michael when they knew he'd be driving all that way for nothing! We're always wondering about people doing what they say their going to do..like cleaning a garage out back far enough to be able to get in to do the work..this morning's opener job, their garage was packed full, Rick called last night when he got home to confirm the 8 am appt..he left a message and they haven't called back so who knows if they will be home and if the garage will be cleaned out:) We are just having soooo much fun these days:) Hang in there, this too shall pass sweetie:)

Good to hear your generator was installed, Karen. I feel for that fellow with kidney stones and I have heard that Marshmallow Root can help with kidney stones. In fact I have been using it for my IBS just recently and it does help. Here is some info on it. http://jonbarron.org/herbal-library/herbs/marshmallow-root
When will your fireplace insert be installed? Any word on it yet? LOL I am not quite sure what a red line syndrome is on your old computer? Good luck learning on your new MacBook.

Janet, It was snowing earlier here, but it appears it has stopped for the moment anyways. LOL It sounds like you are back in school:) I always hated doing book reports. I still haven't started reading Lilla's Feast, it is still sitting on the dining room table. I go on reading sprees every once in awhile.

Tina, Ditto on what everyone it saying. We all care about you too:)

Sounds like you and Rick were very busy yesterday, Marie. Hope it eases up for you guys today. It is hard sometimes to keep things warmed for a long time in the oven without it drying out. At least wasn't totally ruined.

Michelle, I would be annoyed too! Wasting all that gas and time! Sounds like a really dumb uncaring guy. However as you say he is doing Michael a favour giving him some extra work. I pinned those ribs they look and sound really good.

Shona, How are things with you?

I might do Steak In The Oven for our dinner tonight it is easy peasy to do.

    When it rains it pours.

    1. Wayne put sausage on to cook and then we had a fire call. Both fire radios died so I hope his will charge plugged in his truck. I have to stay - repair dude coming this morning - they request someone over 18 be here (so I more than qualify). Bwahahahaha! Since I was in jammies I hurried up and got dressed!

    2. I removed sausages and wrapped in foil and put in refrigerator. If the repair guy calls I will have time to go feed the horses. If not they will be ticked. They will survive until I can feed them, I'm sure.

    3. Called the chief on his cell phone to apprise him of the situation - he is not in town but will head back as soon as he can. Can't reach Wayne to advise him.

    4. Chased Mel and A.C. out of the back room, they sneaked in when he left the door open.

    5. Chased A.C. away from the basement door as he was ANXIOUS to get down and explore forbidden territory again. Brat!

    6. Repair dude is here - and on the way to repair the DISH. When he leaves I can feed horses. He said he couldn't recall if a mean dog lived here so I said yes, Homer would lick him to death. As soon as he leaves I can feed horses!

    Have decided to make
    Chicken Satays With Peanut Sauce
for dinner this evening with Edamame on the side.
Glad to hear Rick has a bit more of a laid back day today Marie. Have a good visit with your Mom and Dad. What are your new glasses like? Did you get funky ones? :)
The guy that Michael is currently working for sounds like a jerk Michelle. That's a shame but hopefully it won't be for long. Country pork ribs sound wonderful for dinner.
Cool on the marshmallow root Joce. What form do you use? Tea? Pill? Steak in the Oven sounds nice for dinner.
Sounds like A.C. is at his finest this morning Karen. :) That's good your Repair guy came for the dish. The horses will be happy to get their breakfast I'm sure. How many times a day do they get fed?

You have had a very busy morning, Karen! I hope Wayne can get something to eat or at least some coffee. While he is out on call.

I am using this one from Amazon, Janet.
    http://www.amazon.ca/Natures-Way-Organic-Marshmallow-Capsules/dp/B000302280/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424884493&sr=8-1&keywords=Marshmallow+root
and I bought the tincture from Well.ca. Too.

Strange they didn't have any a Foodsmith's, but I bet they will be getting some in. LOL Every time I ask if they have something and they don't have it. Later on in time, I seem to see it in stock?

We feed twice a day even in summer. In winter they get both hay and grain. They then think dinner is on the way whenever we go get them.
Ice is melting. Wayne is home. His buddy is here to finish some work and they are planning on scraping roads and cutting wood for the stove, which is finally going to be installed next week. Hopefully also the generator / propane tank.

Just to show it is really safe, Janet. I do check all home remedies through Health Canada. They do enforce good rules here for stuff like that. Our Food and Drug Inspection is Top Notch.

Neat info on the Marshmallow root Joce. If you say it's safe I totally would go on your recommendation as I know how careful you are about such things. Good on Foodsmith's for listening to you too. :) That makes for good business.
Twice a day horse feeding. That's a fair amount of work I'd think. Glad Wayne is home and it sounds like he and his friend are being most productive.

Oh....Michelle...or anyone familiar with younger kids....Jim and I are having a couple over for dinner this weekend who have a boy and a girl around the ages of 9 and 13. I want to make something fairly kid friendly yet nice :) for dinner. I was contemplating Chicken Parmigiana with spaghettini. Thoughts?

Marshmallow root information is interesting, Joce. Since I have moderate IBS maybe it would be helpful. Will look it up soon. I am filing the fire department notes from last month so it can be handed out -- probably no meeting because of weather problems.

Good luck on the kid friendly dinner, Janet. It is not easy trying to figure out what kids will or will not like! My 10 yo GS is so picky I just end up putting out peanut butter and bread so if he doesn't "LIKE" what is on the table he can have that, but since he is my GS I can get away with it. Chicken Parmigiana and spaghettini does sound quite tasty!

Hi Marie - Michelle! It is 45 F outside and the ice is melting away. The guys went up to check the road to see if it needs bladed but haven't let me know yet. They are bringing (tractor) buckets of dirt to put by the generator so the installer can do whatever he is doing with a zillion bucket loads of dirt. They plan on grading the road and / or cutting wood in preparation for the stove installation next week.

Today is in the 40s. Thursday somewhere in the teens, low of 9, snow flurries or half a inch depending on which site. Saturday mixed precip. Sunday clearing and rain and clear all in one day. It's Missouri!

I think Chicken Parmigiana is a great idea, Janet. I know my GD's would love it.

It will be nice when you get your stove in and your generator going. I wonder what he needs all the dirt for?

Thanks everyone for the Chicken Parmigiana vote. I'm going to go with that.

I'm in a terrible state of mind. I''m so sorry. Some strange man came knocking on my door to see the house for sale. I have by appt only. He was huge, in a wifebeater tee, missing a few teeth. He scared me. I didn't unlook the door. The dogs were charging the door and growling ferociously. Then they ran to the back yard and the man was taking pictures over my fence. I took an anxiety pill and went back to bed. I have a pinched nerve in my neck and it radiates down my arm.

    TV dinner for supper

Fred's ashes will be taken out to sea. Part of his ashes, Olivia will take to the family burial plot in Philadelphia. She has a memorial necklace and I have a heart stone with some of his ashes. He loved the water and it seems appropriate, we have two charter boat captains who offered their boats, Probably on his birthday.

Very wise not to open the door, Tina. You did the right thing, he can make an appointment. We had a dog some years back who was so easy going with people, until a "neighbor" came to the back door and Shadow planted herself between the screen and me, and growled a very low growl. that was very unlike her! I did not invite him inside either. Trust your pooches - they are looking out for you. Good doggies!
