Windy Wednesday

  • mommyluvs2cook 6 years ago
Morning everyone!! The wind was insane all night, it has slowed down some now, but it's making the temps. feel colder than what it really is....brrrrrr!! It's been super quiet around here with no kiddos.

Yesterday Michael and I went to this new developing HUGE neighborhood, they have a section of high end houses and a section of a little lower end houses. We are not interested in building there obviously, but just trying to get some ideas and get pictures of anything that pops out to us. We went through all of the model homes and they also had a ton of open houses on the houses that were almost done. I guess the only thing that I found that I absolutely LOVED was this one back splash lol. I have been showing Michael pictures of it off Pinterest, but he never showed interest. When we finally saw it in a house yesterday, in person, he really liked it. Anyway, I can't find the name of it, but I'll try and post a picture if it uploads from my phone. I'm also thinking subway tile in my Master bath shower, I know some people hate it, but I love it!

We also met my Dad for lunch at Red Robin. Have never eaten there and was not that impressed. We have had better burgers at multiple places, so we probably won't be eating there again. There is a restaurant across the street from it called "Whiskey Cake" that is supposed to be amazing, so we will try that next time, we kind of wished we had gone there in the first place lol.

Getting my desserts made today for tomorrow. Making pumpkin cheesecake bars and pecan pie bars :) Also making mashed potatoes but I'll do those up in the morning and taking rolls as well. Wishing everyone a great day!!

    Hi.
Nice backsplash! Red Robin never grabbed me either, but lots of people like it.

Got to go. On the way to dewinterize the RV. See you later.

Nice tiles, Michelle, they look neutral and will go with practically anything. Which is the way to go IMHO. We don't have a Red Robin here.

Dewinterize the RV Karen? Where are you and Wayne off to on a trip?

Not much happening here today it is quite overcast and dreary looking. Den want's Frenchman's Spaghetti for dinner so that is easy.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone!

I love looking thru model homes Michelle. The decorators are so talented and put everything together so nice. I like the back splash. Such fun to explore all the options out there. I too am making my pie today. Just finished making the pie crust and it's setting up in the fridge and later I'll bake the pie. Pumpkin. Nice on your cool temps! Bummer on Red Robin not being so good :(

Doing some major cleaning today (dusting, vacuuming, and maybe steam cleaning the floors). Making pie, prepping the ingredients needed to cook my turkey breast overnight in the crockpot, and cubbing bread for stuffing. Thursday should be easy enough.
Since the bread guy doesn't seem to be showing up at the Farmers Market I'm going to make a No-Knead bread, rustic, with raisins, walnuts, and cinnamon mixed in like he did. If it works then I'll make another with dried cranberries, pecans, and perhaps cardamom. It's nice to have something hearty to slice and toast to munch on in the morning.

Well I guess I better get started ... Wish that fairy would show up and do it all for me (LOL!!! Giggles!)

Hi Joce, yes, definitely going for more neutrals in the kitchen I think. The bathrooms I might add some color to though :) Frenchman spaghetti sounds good!

I love looking at model homes too Linda! Luckily this time the the sales people weren't trying to push us into buying a house there, we stressed the fact that we were just getting ideas. I have no luck with pie crust, so that's why I'm doing bars :) Good luck with all your cleaning and cooking today, the breads sound delicious!!

Decided to also make Lemon Meltaway Cookies they are SOOO good and I have a ton of lemons!

Good luck with all your preparations for Thanksgiving, Linda.

Michelle, Neutrals are good for the main things like floors counters etc. Then you can accessorize with whatever colours you want. Myself I stay to traditional things which won't need to be changed in the future and it is also a better selling feature. We got this house much cheaper than the market value b/c of some poor decorating decisions which will have to be changed before we sell. We are gradually fixing things but it is expensive. Especially b/c Den isn't very handy with carpentry, plumbing or electrical things.

SP Joce ... what is Frenchman's Spaghetti?
I have plenty to do today and am happy to share (LOL!).

I too like neutral tones ... seems there are two ways to go these days, warm with beige, off whites, tans, etc. or cool with the grays, artic whites, charcoal, etc.
Our neutrals are warm and it's easy to accent with color when you want and too to change it when you want.
I like other things too but because they tend to be trends as pretty as they are and if you want to resell it might then be a "problem" or years later not so trendy.
I like doing an accent wall with color. Easy enough to change too.

Dusted, vacuumed, and DH is now steam cleaning the tile floors. I have to say he has been a big help around the house with cleaning.

Back. The trip was to winterize the rv, not dewinterize. Antifreeze in the water lines, etc. so it will survive freezing temps without damage. Expensive but I like dealer to do it so it is done right and they take blame for anything wrong....ha! Now we have to unload, set off a bug bomb, and let it sit for a while. Next spring will repeat the bug bomb, vaccumm, and reload towels, bedding, liquid everything,, food, etc.

Spaghetti is on the agenda if I get the venison out to thaw soon enough.

OK ready to start the RV unloading process.. see you later.

How fun on perusing through model homes looking for ideas Michelle! Lovely backsplashes! Too bad lunch at Red Robin wasn't great. Whiskey Cake sounds intriguing! Pumpkin cheesecake bars sound awesome. Is the recipe posted on GR? Those Lemon Meltaway cookies look really nice. I've had them bookmarked for ages. Should really shortlist them! I see Meyers Lemons are back in our grocery stores at the moment.

Hi Karen! Glad you got the RV winterized with no problems. It'd be quite a job to put antifreeze in the lines and such. I've never done that kind of thing by myself.

It was indeed a dreary morning Joce! The sun is out here now which much improves my mood! :)

Your bread sounds divine Linda. Keep us tuned on its progress. :) That's really nice that your DH has been so helpful with the house work.

Jim and I had a super nice visit with his Aunt and Uncle. They showed up last night around 4:30. They brought us a bunch of bagels from Montreal (3 different flavours) and a lovely bottle of Strawberry Balsamic Pink pepper dressing. I served some appys when they arrived, just cheese, crackers, olives and sausage and then we had dinner at 7. Jim had a nice fire going in the family room and we visited until they headed to bed at 10:30.

Made them Poached eggs on toast with peameal bacon for brekkie this morning which they devoured along with extra slices of toast spread with my cranberry jelly. They headed out at 11 back to their home in St. Catharines and Jim and I headed into town. I had a cleaning appointment at my Dentist's at 11:30 That went fine then we went to the hardware store to buy some chalkboard paint.

Jim made me a giant chalkboard for outside. I saw it in a magazine last year and thought it 'd be fun to put on the front deck and I can write "Merry Christmas" or whatever on it. Went to a new place for a hair cut. I've been going to First Choice for quite a while now but have not been pleased with them. Well....this was WORSE and more expensive! Argh. They cut it really short. Like so short I'm embarrassed to meet up with people I know! Cost me about $15 more than I usually pay too. Thank heavens it will grow back. In time. Sigh.

Done! Whew! Wayne went to get his thermos of water. I feel like I am somewhat dehydrated so am sipping BAI antioxidant drink. They are a bit pricey but use stevia for sweetening.

We had revolving door cats as we unloaded stuff. They are curious about the RV inside. Especially Trouble! She was in...out...in...out the entire time. Mauser is on my lap,

So good DH is helpful, Linda.

Joce, we are home for the winter. It had antifreeze put in and this spring we will have the process reversed, they look for and fix any problems from weather.

Michelle, neutral colors do well for resale, for sure. Our house 🏡 s not set up for resale by any means. The living room is old sixties style and needs redoing completely. We have a long way to go.

OK, nap is calling. Then bug bombing the RV! Such a glamorous life....LOL!

That's a big job now done Karen. I'm sure the cats had fun exploring the RV too, maybe in the spring one will get to take a trip with you too.

Sounds like a nice visit with Jim's Aunt and Uncle ... not to short but not too long. The chalk board sounds fun! And nice you have enough leftovers for dinner tonight. That stinks you are not happy with the new haircut place. Will you go back to the one you were using or try another?

I forgot I needed to make brown sugar for the pumpkin pie so that's done now too. I'll make the pie after dinner and decided we will go out for something casual, tired of cleaning up messes.

SP Janet! Glad your visit went well. Have fun with the chalk board!

Linda, my cats are too quick to jump out the door to trust on a trip. Mauser might travel okay but she would have to compete with Fritz. Friends of ours camped with their cats and dog, lost one cat in some foreigncountry, don't recall which now, even posted a reward for him. A couple found him and held on to him until they returned. Fritz is pretty easy when we are at the RV grounds, but not so great at riding.

I can see cats being trouble to travel with ... they are too quick and hard to catch when they don't want to be caught. Wow on your friends story. That was nice that someone took their pet in and cared for it till they returned.

LOL @ the revolving door cats Karen. Cats are most certainly inquisitive creatures. I miss having them in the house. Your friends were super lucky someone found their cat. I don't think cats on the whole are very fond of travelling.

I don't know where I'll go for my next hair cut Linda. I'm not going to need one for a loonnngggg time yet so I have plenty of time to think about it. :) Enjoy your dinner out.

I got outside this afternoon and cut up four large pumpkins for the deer. I have four more inside, smaller ones, that I'll cut up once the weekend is done and I move on to Christmassy decorating.

Just came in from a nice hot tub. There is a COLD North wind blowing.

It is 49F according to the thermometer. Too cold for my liking. Still not sure about supper. Depends on if the venison is thawed. If not, well, whatever is waiting in the pantry or refrigerator. Thursday is get-ready day. Will bake pie, make cranberry sauce, etc. for Friday.

Hair will always grow back - LOL! By Christmas it will by the right length. Good luck finding a good salon.

    Have a nice evening everyone.

So ... when is everyone decorating for Christmas?
