Wings for Wednesday

Good Morning Everyone! Yesterday got away on me and I never got back although I did read everyone's posts.
Tina, thought about you all night last night. Hope it was a beautiful evening and hope you and Liv made it through okay. I'm hoping you're still all cuddled up with your pooches getting a good rest.
I did end up making the
    Sassy Steak Marinade And Sauce
for dinner last night with a cold veggie tray and dip on the side. It was pretty good. I wrote it up in Frankieanne's IMI review of it.
Tonight I think I'll make Buffalo Chicken wings for dinner. We have another Sens Game so it'll be good Game food. :) I think a nice tossed salad on the side perhaps.
And we went to a totally different restaurant for lunch yesterday than planned. LOL! Got in to the Persian one (I think I was talking about it recently) They had a lunch buffet on for $13.99/person. It's just a little hole in the wall spot and the atmosphere is quite stark but the food was very, very good.
    http://silkroadkabobhouse.com/index.php/our-menu
I tried some Tandoori Chicken which was quite different from the stuff you get in Indian restaurants but my goodness it was delicious and cooked to perfection, moist and juicy. I find at Indian buffets the Tandoori chicken is very often over cooked and dry. There was also a sausage dish with the sausage being sliced on a diagonal mixed in with something that was also really, really good and my third favourite thing was called
    Gheimeh Stew-
Split Yellow Peas with Chunks of Soya Protein, Fresh Tomato, Dried Lemon, Onion & Freshly Grated Silk Spices. Didn't realize I was eating soya protein. Bleck. But it sure tasted super good. :)
"American Sniper" was very good. I'm with you Marie when you said "I hate war". There are certainly a lot of 'unsettling' scenes but it was very well done. I expect it was even more poignant for you and Rick with Rick being a Vet. Bradley Cooper did an amazing job with his character and I honestly hadn't realized that it was based on a true story.
Joce, that chicken recipe you were going to make last night sounded yummy. I was just perusing GR today to get ideas for the Keni Cooking Day and Michelle had posted a link to Allrecipes where they were discussing it over there as well. And one of the Allrecipes people had said they'd recently made Keni's
    Kickin Creamy Chicken Soup
which actually sounds like it is similar in some ingredients to the chicken dish you made last night. Not sure if you already have it bookmarked or would like it but I thought I'd bring your attention to it. Jim looked at the Central Bierhaus menu but nothing was calling his name. We'll definitely go at some point. I've met Chris Neil in person before and he is an absolute Teddy Bear. I've probably mentioned it before as it was certainly a highlight for me but years ago I went to a "Sens at your Service" Dinner where the Ottawa Senators waited on the diners at a very nice gourmet dinner. I wasn't there to be waited on but I was selling the Roger Neilson prints that Home Hardware was promoting to raise money for Roger's House. I got to meet Wade Redden and Chris Philllips too and had good chats with them.
I apologize for writing a novel this morning everyone! :) Am going to hit the post button before I lose this and then continue on. Picture is of my yummy plate of lunch yesterday.

Marie, I was so sad to hear that Rick's Dad wasn't getting the proper care in the facility he first went to. How horrible. And it breaks my heart because he'd have been hurting and disoriented and not able to fend for himself or raise the alarm. Thank goodness you guys got the situation rectified. I hope he's feeling a lot better today. Our seniors need advocates. It's so important.
How did Caiden make out without his Ninja pillow Michelle? :) I think I'd groove on a star pillow myself. Wouldn't that be fun? :)
And Tina, the items for the Memorial table sounded just perfect.
Jett, nice to see you yesterday. Very cool on the Eagle Cam. The nest is in a 100 ft. Pine tree. That's impressive! A big tree for a big bird!
You had a busy day yesterday Karen! Hope your back feels all better this morning.
Not a lot on the agenda today which I don't mind at all. Going to make a batch of
    Peanut Butter Bonbons
for Benjamin's visit. I had a nice chat with him online yesterday morning. He'd tried an Oyster Omelette for the first time and said it was Quote "Damn Good" Unquote. :) This is the link he sent me to show me.
    http://taiwanfoodculture.net/ct.asp?xItem=48244&ctNode=2688&mp=1502
He's actually allergic to shrimp and lobster so I was a bit surprised that he ate the oysters but I guess they are considered a mollusk and don't bother him?
Again, my sincerest apologies for the novel. A two part novel at that. :)
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Hi, Janet. Lunch sounds interesting. Are your counting down the days until Benjamin's arrival/ LOL.

The chimney guy is coming today to see about installing a liner so we can put in a wood burning insert. Got to go type up F.D. stuff, see you all later.

Janet, thank you for your concern on Rick's dad..you are so right, senior citizens do need advocates. Rick tried calling last night a little after 7:00 and he didn't get to talk with his dad, I guess they "shut down" visits & calls after 7:00..he'll try again today. He had a full day yesterday and was beat..I of course couldn't get thru so I'm sure his dad is doing much better, we would have heard from someone if he wasn't.

Yes, American Sniper was a good movie..I do hate war, as do most people. I heard the movie was getting some criticism about snipers being cowards...I believe they are there to save their comrades lives..gosh, there has to be another way to settle things besides young men & women killing each other. Yes indeed, Rick enjoyed the movie and it made him proud to have served in the military..I'm just glad there wasn't a "war" going on when he served, too young for Vietnam, too old for Desert Storm.

Hi Karen:) You'll love the insert, saves quite a bit of wood!

I have a dental appt today..just a check up..thank goodness:) Not much else going on..yet:)

I don't know what to make for dinner! Maybe some sort of a shrimp Thai noodle veggie stir fry:) Minus the shrimp for me:)

Tina, I hope you are nestled with your pups and getting some rest..thinking of you my dear lady xoxox

Wishing everyone a most splendid day:)

Don't forget "Keni Cookin Day" is this coming Sunday:)

That's too bad Rick wasn't able to speak with his Dad as it would have put his mind at ease but he'll get through to him today I'm sure. I can't possibly see how anyone could criticize a Sniper for being a coward, but I too have heard some anti-war critiicisms launched at the movie's expense. I would like to believe there are ways to settle things without having to kill people too but we just have to figure out exactly how. Good luck with your Dental cleaning. I've got to make a concerted effort to find a Keni recipe today so I can make sure I get all the ingredients on hand by Sunday. Thanks for the reminder.

It sounds like you had a great day yesterday, Janet! The pic of your lunch looks divine and so does your steak you had last night for dinner. Also pleased to hear once again that “American Sniper” was a good movie. I don't have that soup recipe bookmarked b/c, of the chilies and hot stuff in it. I have been eyeing a couple of Keni's recipes and I hope I am able to make at least one and that my chest doesn't get in the way. Very cool indeed you meeting all those Senators at that gourmet dinner. I didn't know Ben was allergic to shrimp and lobster! Good to hear he enjoyed his oyster omelet so much though! Actually I still find it amazing he will eat so many different things now! It will be fun for you to cook many different things for him when he is here that aren't vegetarian anymore. Wow! 17 days isn't very long to wait now, for him to come home for a visit.

Karen, Great to hear about your new wood insert etc. I am sure you and Wayne will really enjoy it. You are lucky you have the land to be able to cut your own wood as well.

Marie, I hope Rick's Dad is much better again today and that Rick is able to get through to him today. I also hope everything goes well with your dental check up. Thanks for the reminder.

Tina, I hope all goes well with your tests and things today and I am quite certain the memorial service went very well. Try and pace yourself and get a good rest.

We are having pork chops tonight with mashed potatoes and a veggie plus some applesauce on the side. LOL Den eats his applesauce for dessert and I eat mine with my pork chops.

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Yes Joce, Benjamin is allergic to Shellfish and kiwi. Your dinner sounds good. I'd eat my applesauce as dessert as well. :) By the way....you have been pinning the most yummy looking recipes on Pinterest lately. I've stolen a bunch. :)
We are having friends over for dinner on Saturday. At Christmas my girlfriend had given me a jar of jam called "Toe Jam". It's got oranges and blueberries in it. I really only care for strawberry or raspberry jam and I rarely eat that but I thought it'd be fun if I could incorporate the Toe Jam into a dessert recipe to serve on Saturday. Obviously the first thing that comes to mind is thumb print cookies but I'd like to think of something more inspirational. If anyone has an idea I'd love to hear it! And it doesn't even have to be a dessert, it could be an appy or a sauce for something.

Janet, You could make oatmeal cookies and fill them with that jam for little sandwiches? Or you could make shortbread cookies and put a wee bit of jam on top or also do the sandwich cookie thing with them. I will check out some more ideas for you.

Goodness Joce....you're making me hungry with all these sweet treat links. :) Thanks so much. That very first link mentioned trifle and I saw this recipe that the toe jam would probably match well with.
    http://www.foodandtravel.com/food/recipes/winter-clementine-trifle
I don't know that I've seen store bought custard before? But I've made a trifle or two in the past so must have made it maybe? Jim would love a jam filled doughnut or doughnut hole but I'm not into the frying. Over the top of some brie is a cool idea too. Again, thank you for all your ideas. It helped a lot!

For custard you can buy two different brand that are good. They are in a can in the baking section. One is Horn's and the other is Bird's both are well known in the UK.
You mix their power with milk and whatever they say on the can. They make a very nice tasting custard. You can also make your own.Homemade Vanilla Custard
    I hope this helps.

Hi all!! Glad the steak marinade turned out for you! Your picture is fantastic! Yum on chicken wings, don't tell Michael or he'll be knocking on your door tonight :P Your lunch buffet yesterday sounded delicious! The food looks awesome. We really need to try new places more often, I've seen a few, but I'm always scared I'll be disappointed. Lol at not knowing you were eating soy protein....I probably wouldn't have known either, is it like tofu? I need to see American Sniper now, I know Michael would love it for sure. Caiden is doing okay without his ninja turtle pillow lol. We actually took his seat belt monkey pillow out of the car and he is using that in place until we get it back. http://www.amazon.com/Seat-Belt-Animal-Pet-Monkey/dp/B00MG2CV1G/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&qid=1421862744&sr=8-23&keywords=car+seat+belt+pillow he has a regular pillow too he uses lol, he just has his ways! I think I would totally love the oyster omelet :)

    Hi Karen!

Good luck at the dentist check up today Marie. Your Thai dinner idea sounds yummy, I'll take your shrimp :)

I love applesauce and pork chops, and I'm like you, I like to dip my chop in my applesauce :) I actually keep coming across slow cooker applesauce recipes, think I am going to give that a try soon!

We have a busy day today. I need to make a Sam's run, and then I have to go to Walmart, Bri's school binder is literally falling apart. She also has requested a cushion for her chair in her room. Bri's play practice changed up day's this week so now we have to leave to do that as soon as she get's home from school, we will have an hour to eat something and change clothes then both kids have gym class. I won't be home until 9! Trying to figure out where we will fit in homework in all that!! Oh well, the play is not this weekend but the next, so we will be through with this soon :) Gotta run, hope everyone has a great day!!

I think soy protein would be tofu Michelle but I didn't see it. Lord knows I'd be picking it out if I had! :) That seat belt monkey pillow is adorable. Gee they have the cutest things for kids these days. I NEED A GRANDCHILD! :) Not yet, not yet. No rush I know. You do indeed have a busy day today. Goodness on all the extracurriculars. That'll keep you jumping for sure.
I've got the Bonbons chilling in the freezer. Now I've got to have major willpower for the next couple of weeks not sneaking any! Argh!
Gonna make up steak sandwiches with the leftovers from last night. Jim's out cleaning the pond off again. He sure has put a lot of effort into it. :)

That monkey seat belt pillow is cute! It is amazing what they have for kids these days.
Try a teaspoon or two of horseradish in your applesauce next time you have it with pork chops, Michelle. It really makes it special and it is so easy to do.

Steak sandwiches from your leftover steak, sounds more than delicious to me, Janet. The pond is keeping Jim busy which is probably a good thing for him.

    Hello everyone,
Dinner tonight was meatloaf, mashed potatoes and green beans. But Rachel and I have been craving salmon so we had that I got a piece and grilled it on the George Forman.
This weekend is supposed to be my annual girl's party on Saturday now I'm hearing there may be a huge snow storm. Ugh but you really can't trust the weatherman. You know if I cancel it won't snow!
