Wintry Wednesday

Good Morning everyone! We woke up to a lot more snow. Lots of drifting and blowing too. Our guests emailed and called last night. They were going to wait until this morning to decide their plan of action but I'd be highly surprised if they set out. Conditions in Montreal are even worse. The schools there have been closed.

Will wait until I hear for sure but I think it will be just Jim and I for dinner this evening.

Jim just woke up. Slept in quite a bit but I was up at 7:45 so am getting a little hungry. Still have to do our work out as well.

Sorry to hear you had a rough day yesterday Linda. Your dinner out last night sounded yummy.

Hope you enjoyed your meal at Arby's last night Karen.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning!
I don't think I would be venturing out anywhere today, Janet. Some of the highways are still closed and the winds are supposed to get up to 40 mph. Not good for HWY driving at all. Better safe than sorry and maybe they will come tomorrow?

Den is home today, of course, b/c of the snow and it is still snowing! I have no idea what we are having for dinner yet. I will ask Den and maybe he has an idea.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Morning!!! Wow on all of your snow Janet, that's crazy in March!! Is that pretty normal, or is it usually done by now?

Right now we are just kind of sitting around our hotel room waiting for Six Flags to open at 10:30a. We already had our free continental breakfast, with Texas shaped waffles and all :) I posted lots of pictures on FB of what we did yesterday. Places I didn't get pictures at because my phone died :( was the Wax Museum, and the Riverwalk. Ate a nice Italian place right on the river for dinner, waited for an hour and got the worst table in the place, right by the main walkway and hostess stand. People were constantly bumping into our chairs. We complained but nothing came of it. All the food was great except Michael's was bland, bland, bland. Caiden could have seasoned up that dish better than they did. Anyway gotta get ready, hope everyone has a great day!!!

Wow on schools closing Janet. Here they close schools at three inches or even less! I imagine it takes a lot more snow to close in Ottawa. Woke up to 16F temp and Wayne started a fire. Nice. Mauser and Fritz shared my lap. Trouble and A.C. Are outside, Trouble will be inside soon at this temp. A.C. stays out much longer regardless.

Ugh on the slow service, Michelle. I try not to eat out during peak hours because of that.
Texas shaped waffles are so cool!

Hi Joce? It is not quite that bad here ... ha ha! But when the snow flies we are outside just long enough to feed horses and chickens, and it is back inside ASAP!

Wayne's buddy is not coming this morning -- too cold to work outside. I need to get to work cleaning and the laundry is piling up again. Ha be to run GS to swimming this evening, ?? Burgers at home or Wendy's or (groan) Steak and Shake.

    Back later.

Morning Joce! Yes, very likely our company will come tomorrow instead. It's all up in the air. Not a huge deal, but I did ask that they let me know this morning one way or the other as I needed to take out things for dinner if they are arriving tonight and we're at almost 11:30 and I haven't heard boo. I'm annoyed. :) Glad Den is home today. It's not snowing here anymore but it is still very blustery. Went out and fed my birds and they were most appreciative. :)

Morning Michelle! No, it's totally normal for us to get snow in March. It starts to get nice and then Mother Nature always lets us have it with at least one more big snowstorm just to keep us humble. :) LOL @ Texas shaped waffles. Love it! Oh dear at the bad table for dinner last night and Michael's bland meal. :( I'm LOVIN' your pics on FB. Looks like you are having a fabulous time!

SP Karen. Yes, 3" of snow is nothing for Ottawa so the buses have no problem with that. You're kind of chilly there today, for you guys. Good luck with the laundry.

Gonna try a new recipe out tonight.
Italian Chicken Escalopes With Wine And Lemon
    Not sure of the sides.
It's house cleaning day for me today. Top to bottom. Gotta get motivated. :)

2:06 I receive an email saying our guests are not arriving this evening. Grrrrrrrrr. I'm totally fine and I didn't take out anything to thaw but that really ticks me off. That's not polite. They said the aim is to leave Montreal tomorrow morning to head our way depending on if they have to dig out the van again as it's still snowing there.

Jim had to run an errand and got the car stuck in the driveway as our snowplow hasn't come yet. He got the car free and managed to go out and back in but called the snowplow service and vented. They still haven't shown. Plus our Volkswagon Jetta is acting like its possessed. Something weird is going on with the electrical system. The car door alarm keeps going off despite the door being totally closed. The car alarm goes off when we close the trunk and now the blinker signal is sounding when you turn the steering wheel left. Jim has called our mechanic and will bring it in tomorrow.

So....it is not a good day in the Irwin household. :)

I did manage to get the entire house clean. Will sit back and do something more enjoyable this afternoon once we have a bite of lunch.

LOL...Looks like I'm just carrying on a conversation with myself today. Dum de dum de dum.

Think I'll try another new recipe as a side to the Chicken.
    Garlic Parmesan Orzo

I have some tomatoes I can slice up and drizzle with some olive oil and even some fresh basil I can shred over top. Sounds like a plan.

I'm sorry that your day was so difficult, Linda. Hopefully things will get better soon.
That is rather rude, Janet, especially as you asked them to let you know this morning. I would be annoyed too. I got stuck several times today so I can understand how Jim did since it wasn't plowed. My daughter's B/D is in early April and there have been snow storms on that day. Sorry about your car trouble, always something!
Den was wise to stay home, Joce. The winds are supposed to pick up and it's already blowing the snow around. I'm sure that you will come up with something good for dinner.
They were probably overwhelmed, Michelle, but that's really no excuse and neither is under seasoned food. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your day.
That is cold for you, Karen. I hope that the critters stay out of trouble. I vote burgers out.
I have this in the oven Simple Meatloaf but I made it with chicken and pork. This as a side Stuffed Artichokes and we'll have veg fried rice with it.
    Your dinner sounds wonderful, Janet.

Hi Bren! Ugh on getting stuck several times today! :( Looks like the snow is supposed to stop this evening and then warm up tomorrow with a mixture of sun and clouds. Enjoy your dinner.

Meatloaf of most any type sounds great, Bren. Depending if GS has a private lesson we will either have burgers at Wendy's or suffer thru Steak and Shake, or fix burgers at home and drive one of the trucks to her work so Fritz can ride along.

I agree it is rude not to call you this morning, Janet. Now, if they had only emailed you at 2:30 that they were coming today it would have easy to apologize for a quick fix meal ...since you were not sure they were coming and didn't have time to pull something from the freezer. Heh heh! It would sure make me not want to go out of my way to entertain. Are they staying overnight?

Tomorrow should be warmer here. This was probably one last hurrah for winter. Not that we had much winter.

I need to weed the garden and see if we have to put in another rhubarb plant. One is up but the others have not made an appearance. Am getting antsy for Spring.

    Have a nice day everyone.

Initially Karen, our guests were supposed to arrive by this evening for dinner and stay through until Saturday. It kind of looks now that they will arrive tomorrow instead. Nice on the rhubarb. Love the stuff. Getting antsy for spring? You and me both. :)

Hi all. Busy day today, took DH out this morning for his primary care appt with new doctor. Long story short was there for 1.5 hours between getting his history and his assistant reviewing it (it was a lot), waiting, etc. but we really like the guy. After went out for a very late breakfast and since we are "in season" here even had to wait there. After that ran a couple errands. Pulled out ground beef for dinner and grilled burgers without the bread, baked potato, and steamed asparagus.

Wow, enough with the snow! You all in Canada have had enough. Bummer on your company delaying their arrival Janet but I guess there isn't much they can do about it. How was your chix dinner tonight? Don's recipes are usually really good. I'm familiar with him from the Allrecipes days. Good luck with your car whacking out ... maybe it's just the cold and nothing more.

Smart that Den stayed home today Joce.

Tourist places/restaurants always have something to deal with Michelle and because so many people come and go that they will never see again they usually don't care. Hoping you have a much better experience tonight and glad to hear your having fun. Lets us know how you and Michael did on the rides.

Meatloaf an artichokes sound wonderful Bren. I've been wanting some stuffed artichokes but haven't seen any worth buying in the store but I'll keep looking.

Is your ground unfrozen enough to weed and start turning the garden Karen?

We are having a little cold front here yesterday and today. Woke up to temps of 55(f)! and had to wear a light jacket when we went out this morning.
I have all good intentions of making a tray of baked oatmeal tomorrow morning and so I do I'll measure the dry ingredients tonight and have everything ready.

Hello all. Wow, I feel really bad saying it's 50F degrees here and I'm freaking freezing! Suppose to dip down to possibly the 30's. Good lord! Since it was cold (for us with sand in our shoes) I made potato soup today. Which turned out delightful and really hit the spot!

Sorry your company was not very informative about their plans Janet. Went thru the same thing last fall with my brother. My brother, mind you. Was suppose to be here on a particular date with his young grandson in tow, of whom I have never met. They were driving down from Indiana. Spent an entire week rearranging Cayce (as he has the second master bedroom with full bath in the house), cleaning, moving Cayce's clothes and personal effects to Ben's room and bathroom in anticipation of our guests. Plus child proofing the house as best I could. Well the day came and kept going and no word from my brother. Called him a few times and no answer. Finally get a hold of him and he said, oh ya, well we had to postpone our trip. What!! Thanks for telling me there big brother!! Chewed him a new one and just the other night talked to him for the first time since. I was PISSED off, actually still am about that. He had no clue what was involved preparing for him and his grandson. The fact that my son had to be relocated and I had to basically pick every thing up for his toddler grandson! Not sure if he will ever visit after our last few phone calls, lol! Told him he was totally rude and disrespectful in all ways. And you are older than me! So we will see if he ever plans another trip or not.

I'm going to go curl up on the couch with my blanky and watch mindless tv.

    Sleep sweet all................as always.............

We are freezing too Kimmer! I laugh because we thought we would never get use to FL weather but seems it happened. Even the dog is cold and curls up next to me for body heat. Oh No on your brother, I'd be really miffed too.
Ingredients are prepped for baked oatmeal. I added unsweetened coconut, cocoa nibs, and walnuts to the mix. All I have to do is mix in the wet ingredients, dump it in the pan and bake. It's kinda like a soft fluffy oatmeal cookie/cake.
