Without Power Wednesday!

  • Good4U 9 years ago
Our power just came back on! YEAH! It has been out since about 1:00 AM this morning! Apparently 21,000 were without power all night from a Hydro pole (power pole) that caught on fire on a back road HWY somewhere. We are lucky in this house as we have a natural gas fireplace, a gas kitchen stove and a small backup power unit that is used to keep the fan on the fireplace going to keep us warm. The backup power unit can accommodate a few other things like a sump pump if needed. We have our thermostat programmed at night to about 15C as we like sleeping better when it is cooler inside. It was cold in here for awhile until the fireplace started to warm things back up again in here. Poor Den he got up and shoveled the driveway and showered then drove to work without a coffee. I tried to get him to wait while I made him a coffee on the top of the stove, with one of those Melita pour through filter coffee makers, which I keep for emergencies but he refused and took off.
Any how I am very pleased the power is back on:)

I started to read Lilla's Feast this morning, Janet. I must say I am very impressed with Francine Osborne's writing style. I hope all goes well at the specialist today.

Laurie, Bummer on your washer:( However as you say it has served you well. I am pleased you love your new car.

Shona, Sorry I missed you the other day and I hope Sophia's ears are better today. My heavens you have had your fill of sickness in your family this year! I hope things settle down so you can have some more time to yourself soon. HUGS)))

Karen, What are you up to today?

Marie, I suspect you and Rick are running the roads again and are busy again.

Tina, What did Angie do to your nails this time?

I am not sure what we are having for dinner yet. I should post this as no one has started a thread in here and it is already passed noon!

Good Morning Joce! Glad to hear your power was on. I hadn't heard there was a problem.Good that you're equipped with the gas fireplace and stove as warmth and food are always the two main worries alright. :) Did Den have hot water for a shower?
I'm tickled you're enjoying Lilla's Feast. I really like it. We didn't get too much snow, you?
I had my biopsy this morning. I'd been nervous about it but it turns out that they gave me a sedative so one minute I was getting an oxygen mask put on and thinking that that was going to be a tad annoying and then next minute I woke up with gauze in my mouth and they were all finished. So that was easy. Turns out the bump wasn't filled with liquid but was tissue. So weird. So they've sent a sample away to see what's next. My Dr. is heading on March Break so I may not hear for a few weeks. He removed most of it and I have dissolvable stitches up there and are on Percocet, Aleve and more anti-biotics. Didn't sleep well last night so will probably have a nap later. Can only eat cold soft things this morning and then warm soft things this evening. We had planned to go for brekkie at McDonald's. Jim had his Egg McMuffin and I ended up with a chocolate milkshake. I made a smoothie a bit ago and also bought some yogurt peach bars to snack on. For dinner I bought some deluxe Kraft dinner? and I'm also thawing some Sauerkraut soup from the freezer.
Still feeling a little bit woozey. Hope everyone has a great day.

Oh yuck, Janet! Poor you:( One good thing is the fastest healing thing we have is our mouth. Wow percocet and another bout of antibiotics as well! You should pick up some good probiotics so you don't end up with other problems like thrush after being on so many antibiotics lately.
We don't loose are hot water when the power goes out. It is also on natural gas. We received about another three or four inches of snow yesterday and last night.
Sending you a nice healing bowl of chicken noodle soup. Get some rest. HUGS)))

I'm not in bad shape at all. Not supposed to have any alcohol with the Percocet which is a shame as there is a Sens Game on tonight and I do like a glass or two of Chardonnay with my Hockey. :) Just took an Aleve and I'm in no pain. The Pharmacy did tell me about the yogurt so I did throw a cup of it into my smoothie. Thanks for the tip. :) Lucky you to have a natural gas hot water heater. When we lose power we lose our hot water and our water period . Thanks for the soup. I've nodded off a few times. Might try find a cooking show on TV to watch. Jim had arranged to go out for coffee with a friend so just left.

    Good afternoon!
Janet - Hope you feel better and your mouth heals soon. Yoghurt is very good when you are on antibiotics. If you are sure to get the one with active bacteria in it, not the low fat pretend stuff. If I recall, isn't it the acidophilus bacteria that is the good one?
Joce - Boo on power outage. Our wood burning stove / insert is supposed o be coming Friday, we hope all goes well! Out here power outages are a way of life, too.
Snow is falling and we have somewhere around two to three inches on the ground. No Biggy. Everyone I talk to is ready for Spring. Sunday is supposed to be in the range of 60F.
    Hi to everyone.

Yes that is the name of it, Karen! Acidophilus! (My mind went blank earlier.) However you don't get enough of it in yoghurt. The best pills have over 5 Billion acidophilus bacteria in them and the pills are kept in the fridge. Yes bring on SPRING!!!

Janet, hope you feel better and your mouth heals quickly..your dentist sounds like a good one..I remember when my dentist noticed something with my gums, had to go back so he could check it again, turned out to be nothing..hang in there dear..<hugs>

    Hi everyone!
Joce, sooo glad your power is back on!

Well, been busy here..I've had to make some more price sheets for work done in the Town of Paradise, their sales tax rate goes up to 8% 4/1/15..ours is still 7.50%..so now Rick will have to remember to charge the correct tax when the job is in Paradise..I wish they would have just left it alone!!!

I wish I could catch up..hopefully tomorrow..no rest for the wicked I tell ya:)

Dinner will be grilled hot dogs and Maries Potato Salad..easy peasy have a most wonderful rest of your day:)

No idea what to fix for supper but am thinking of something with ground beef, and maybe cabbage. Guess we will see what is in the refrigerator and go from there! Wayne's buddy is gone and even tho he cleans up after himself there are still dust tracks from sanding the drywall, so will have to mop the floors so at least they start out clean tomorrow morning. At the moment there are three chargers for high power flashlights plugged in on the kitchen counters and one in the LR, to see if they do or do not work. If not, bye bye. If so,then we will keep them. It is amazing what turns up when you start remodeling rooms and clear out a lot of "stuff" in the meantime. Next is to go through the books stacked in the sun room and see what I can get him to DONATE to charity!

My iPad spell checker is wacko. It changed stuff to studs - so I had to check the rest of the paragraph for other flubs! If anything looks odd, just ignore it and attribute it to spell-checker-it is.

    Tina?

    Have a good evening!

I feel bad for you Marie....seems like a lot of hassle and extra work for such a small percentage raise in tax. Didn't realize each city had a different tax. Thought it be the same for the entire state. I LOVE your potato salad and need to bump it up to the short list SOON! I had a craving for hot dogs when I made my Kraft dinner at lunch time. :)
You've got lots of the go Karen. I could probably cull some books myself, but shall choose to procrastinate for the time being. :) ROFL at spellchecker changing stuff to studs. ROFL.
    Thinking of you Tina.
    Laurie? How was your day?

Oh Janet, it's just part of the job I guess, the residents of Paradise voted in the higher tax rate so that's that! Some areas down south have a 10% sales tax rate..up here in the boonies, it's less. The hard part will be making sure Rick remembers to charge the new rate come April..if he doesn't, it comes out of our pocket..I'm thinking he'll remember..LOL Yum on your lunch:) Hey, did you finish watching the DA finale? I'm almost there..so sad, I have a hard time waiting for the new season:( Thanks so much for the potato salad compliment..I feel the same way about your Chicken Parmigiano:) Have a wonderful evening:)

Oh my God Karen! That is so funny! Your spellchecker changing stuff to studs! hahahahaha! Thanks for the laugh, I really needed that!

Decided on pumpkin chili for supper. Too lazy to hunt the recipe so just threw it together. Ground beef - tomatoes - marinara sauce with no sugar in it - kidney beans - onion - pumpkin purée - canned tomatoes with chills. Season it and serve with green onions, sour cream, crackers for garnish. Easy peasy, quick, no fuss. I am not in the mind to be creative.

Most schools in the area are closed. Most of the past two weeks due to weather si I imagine they will not have spring break this year.

I don't see any weird spell checks -- am using the iPad and it gets creative with words.

    See you later.

    Hey everyone
Worked both jobs today. Had an egg sandwich for dinner.
Dropped by Fitbit in the toilet today and it totally stopped working. Frank did get an extra warrenty with it but now I have to hunt it down. Crazy because it says it's waterproof. I just plugged it into the charger and it started charging so maybe it just needed to dry out.
I am about four or five episodes behind on dowton Abby. I binge watched the first four seasons so I thin I needed a break lol
