Are we havin fun yet? Haven't seen you, or a lot of the other thinkin foodies, around much sense the "New and Improved" GR came along. More proof the the old saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and the KISS principle both still work. Tis sad. Leave a comment, if you're of a mind. RJ

  • chef_irish 4 years ago about Old School Samp and Beans
    Samp:
Samp is dried corn kernels that have been stamped and chopped until broken but not as fine as Mielie-meal or mielie rice. The coating around the kernel loosens and is removed during the pounding and stamping process. It is used in the Xhosa variant of Umngqusho and sometimes eaten with Chakalaka. It can also be served with beef, lamb, poultry and in stuffings. Samp is often served with beans, as in "samp and beans".
"samp" is of Native American origin, coming from the Narragansett word "nasàump." New Englanders since early colonial times have referred to cornmeal mush or cereal as "samp."

So you like peepee. It is delicious and we have it a lot. If you're set up for doing it its easy, if you're not set up for doing it, its a pain in the backside. A little practice helps and a lot of practice helps more. That canned rubbish is rubbish. RJ
