About me
When I was in junior high and high school, I used to cut out of class then go home and watch The Frugal Gourmet and Yan Can Cook (this was before Food Network was around). I wasn't ditching school specifically to watch people cook, but there was nothing else on TV. Before long, I was hooked on learning cooking technique and my life as a culinary wannabe had begun. By the time I was in college, Food Network was around so I could spend my days learning nonsense and my nights learning something useful...kitchen skills. These days, I love to cook, I do it well, and my guests always ask for seconds. Most people think of me as a "regular guy" of the typical Brooklyn mold. In other words, I'm friendly, jovial, play and watch sports a lot, talk about sports a lot, have a quick wit, and of course, I love to eat. While all of those things are true, those who know me well are aware that I'm really a quiet, introspective person and a big geek of many flavors (current events geek, computer geek, science geek, history geek, and of course, food geek). Professionally, I have done all kind of Web-related nonsense since it was in it's nascent stages. Nowadays I work primarily as a consultant suckering people--I mean, um, helping people with my accumulation of knowledge. Socially, I've never been into clubs or bars or group activities. I'm more into small groups or intimate get-togethers like dining or a museum and then afterwards snuggling up with a good movie and a good woman (who is able to understand the movie and willing to talk about it afterwards). Some other not-so-interesting facts about me: I consider myself funny but have occasionally been referred to as corny. I'm respectful, quiet, and I tend to do a lot more listening than talking. I have one cat, age 11 and one dog age 2. The dog loves the cat but the cat hates the dog, go figure. As far as appearance, there is a pic here but I had a colleague write a description of me: "Typical tall, dark and handsome with a muscular football player's build and a few sexy extra pounds around the middle. Great smile. Great ass. Great catch." What a sterling review...and that was a guy writing it! Just kidding, it was a female co-worker. So why am I here? Well, despite having my finger on the pulse of the Internet, I've generally stayed away from social networking sites since everyone's out there in one big mess. In other words, they're great to meet people to hang out with (like a girl from Jersey who wants to go to a club here in the city that she heard about on the radio) but hard to meet people who you can connect with (like a girl from Jersey who wants to go to a restaurant here in the city that she's read about in a Zagat guide). But this site shows promise as far as meeting a few foodie penpals--or forkpals I suppose (not "fork", as in, a codeword for sex but "fork", as in, the eating utensil).
