    I used the residual batter in a heavy saute pan. Heated the oil to smoking and browned the sausages on the stove top. Poured the batter in with a few broccoli tips and threw it all in the hot oven. It didn't really puff up as I was expecting, but the pan wasn't really that hot. Just the oil.
    I'll give it another go, doing it right.

    Hi, it's me again.
    Just viewed a lot of "toad in the hole" recipe videos. And they used all the batter.
    I was trying to get that nice round effect you have on your picture so I poured the batter around the sausages as the recipe states. -That's all I used. Just enough to make a circle around the sausages. Plenty of batter left over.

    Was I supposed to use all the batter?
    It's my first time making this kind of recipe.

    Need a little help here. Tried making your Toad In The Hole recipe.
    Batter never rose. Thought I followed directions to a "T".
    Should the batter be thick? Because mine was very thin.
    Used canola oil which has a 400F smoke point. Oil never smoked but everything sizzled when put on the baking sheet.

    It has been *HOT* today here in Missouri.It is easier to have simple and easy things to eat stead of heating up the kitchen.I think I have an ideal on what you wouldve'd told your husband.Yeah we call them zucchini over here.
