I hope that you were able to find a low-sugar icing recipe for your grandson's birthday. If I haven't responded too late, you could try my decorating icing. It has powdered sugar in it and would not be considered 'low-sugar', but it does have a balanced flavor so I don't find it overpoweringly sweet.
