An Islander in Gray Court? Wow! I was looking to make lau lau for a thrower of mine down at Charleston Southern, who is from Oahu. It's her favorite thing from home. We've already made her loco moco and shoyu chicken. I figured collards would make a good substitute for taro leaves. I also have an imu that I make kalua pig with, soooooo good.

Yep, that's luau. I have taro growing out back so the real thing's no problem but if you can't get taro leaves try "poke salad" and you'll be closer than spinach. I know they got "Poke salad" in SC. Aloha. RJ

Shaka Brudda; Here we have the Waimanalo blues. I really must fix this for old times sake, and my palate. Hope you don't mind if I use Taro leaves; I'll just stroll out back and get some. RJ

Thank you for such a wonderful compliment over my firehouse chili. Yes, the chili has a little kick and I wish I had remembered to put that in the description. I still can, can't I? Merry Christmas to you and your family =)

Visited Hawaii twice during r&r for my husband. What a beautiful place it is. So much interesting history and such loving, warm people. How could you not fall in love with them. I envy your childhood; how fortunate you are.

Ahola, my new friend and welcome.
