I like cooking for my family, usually just my husband and me. We both retired to Ashland from the East Coast in 2000. We like going to the theatre (Ashland) and opera (San Francisco) and watching Netflix movies in our comfortabl
e home. I do drawing and printmaking as a hobby, and go to Nia classes 2-3 times a week for exercise. I'm a beginnng gardener and had tomatoes, romaine, and herbs during the summer. I loved popping out to my garden for fresh herbs! What I look for most in making a menu is the little "unexpected" element--a new combination of flavors or textures that stimulates. I find it more fun to cook a new recipe than a "favorite" so am always studying my clippings and cookbooks. I love Mark Bittman's "Minimalist" column in the New York Times.
