About me
Edited: When I was in my teens I never learned how to cook anything past hamburger helper. My mom offered to teach me but I rejected it. I was too dependant on my mom and figured she’d always be here to cook for me. Well, I guess you could say that eventually I was introduced to reality. My parents divorced, my mom moved out of state and I had a small human to feed. I had to learn to cook. So, since 2003-04 I've been trying to learn to cook. I can follow a recipe pretty well but I'm afraid I'm fairly jumpy when it comes to skillets and stove top cooking. I'm also not very good at cooking meats or poultry with a skillet, except like ground beef, chicken, pork and sausage. I did manage to purchase a skillet, but I think I need to buy a smaller one for general use. I swear, the skillet I had before was the scariest looking thing on earth!!! I also have a dutch oven. Update for 2008: For 2007 I attempted to cook more often, even braving the much dreaded Thanksgiving dinner but my confidence with cooking on the stove top hadn’t really improved. I had successfully made Thanksgiving dinner but yet, I still didn’t feel comfortable. As mentioned above, I bought my first skillet and I used it a lot during Thanksgiving, along with my old cookware. This helped me realize something - my regular cookware was terrible. So for Christmas Santa brought me a nice set of Rachael Ray cookware. I can safely say my confidence has improved in the year 2008. I’m cooking regularly and getting less fast food. Even when making Pizza I use the stove top for the toppings! Now I’m focusing more on trying new dishes and new ingredients. Some new things my family has tried has been mushroom pizza with shiitake and sausage, goat cheese (which they all enjoyed) and even 6 cheese pesto pizza with heirloom tomatoes.
