About me
I first started cooking with my dad, "helping" him make kringle at Christmas when I was about 3. He taught me variation and experimentation, while my mom taught me from-her-grandmother tried-and-true basics. By the time I was 10 or so I was a loyal Frugal Gourmet fan, and by high school was serious enough about cooking that I thought about going to school for it (even though I went with another passion of mine, languages, instead). I consider myself a competent cook, and after years of following recipes, am starting to experiment on my own, as well as purposefully expand my repertoire beyond where I'm currently comfortable. Most cooking is an art, and those type of dishes are the ones I'm best at. I am gradually indoctrinating myself into baking, which is most definitely a science, and those in-between areas like puddings and sauces, which require more precise measurements than "until it looks like enough" or "until it tastes right". I currently live in Philly with the two loves of my life (one is 35, the other was born in August). I've already infected the one with an interest in cooking, and I hope to pass on what I know to the other one in the years to come.
