Fortunately, my parents had very deep roots in the cuisines of Luxembourg, Germany, France, and the United States. They both taught me to cook and bake, to be independent at an early age. I eventually built up a bakery in the Detroit, Michigan, area, which specialized in eleven kinds of European breads daily--from light Italian to crusty French, to Hungarian rye, and on to end up with thick, chewy black bread. I also made torte cakes, lots of pies, wonderful Greek baklava, and pizza. The pizza began as an accident, really, when one day I had a little left-over dough, and I threw together a simple pizza for my staff and myself as a snack. The wonderful aromas of pizza filled the bakery, and customers began asking for a pizza to take home. My life has taken many interesting and delightful turns, and now I am living in Bangkok, where I have been for seven years. What a wonderful city of more than ten thousand registered restaurants, and thousands of street vendors. Foods from virtually every nationality on earth are here. Just a ten minute walk from my home will take me to Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, American, Italian, French, Greek, Mexican, Lebanese, Indian, Arabic, Philippine restaurants. So many restaurants! So much great food!
