About me
I'm an American (proud Bay Stater) living in Moscow at the moment. Everything I know about cooking I gleaned from hanging out in the kitchen with my grandma and mom ask a kid-- hence I'm not helpless, but I'm also not fantastic. I like hearty traditional foods, with the caveats that I hate seafood (long story) and am lactose intolerant (so dairy hates me... is this foodie karma? the only seafood dish I do really like is clam chowder...). I like to try new things and I think I've actually learned something from those crazy cooking shows. For right now I'm mostly making soup once a week and then supplementing as needed. Bread and soup are my mainstays. I like Moscow making me cook more for real- I make my own stock and it's all fresh (except for the frozen pelmeni, I do admit...).
My favorite dishes in any cuisine are always some version of a dumpling- take some dough of some kind and put meat or veggies in it and I'm in heaven, be it baked, boiled, or fried. This extends to every version of pierogi/pirogi, ravioli/tortellini, pasties, and Peking dumplings (and all variants from across Asia that I've ever encountered that weren't fish).
