About me
I'm a lifelong food enthusiast who is curious about most cuisines. I grew up eating American and Japanese food. My interests include: slow food, sustainable food: seasonal and local eating, cast iron cooking, heirloom vegetables, vintage recipes, and world cuisines. I collect old cookbooks from Friends of the Library: among my favorites finds are "1000 Ways to Please a Husband", "First Catch Your Peacock", and "The Cookbook of the Seven Seas". I like a book with recipes but also a story to tell.

Hi I can't believe I would ever find another person who owned the cookbook, 1000 Ways to Please a Husband. !!!! I love finding old cookbooks.

I have wild strawberries in my yard. They certainly are pretty right now, with loads of little red berries. It's a shame they have NO taste at all. If these are what you like, let me know. I will send you some of the many runners.
(my cats won't touch them. I think they are trying to use them for bird bate!)

I have some old USDA pamphlets stashed away in my OLD cookbook that I put into my hopechest back in the early 60s. They are quite the Suzy Homemaker pamphlets. I think they passed them out in the Home Ec classes.
I think I would be the authors' nightmare!

June, you should see some of the titles I have! I think I mentioned "A Thousand Ways to Please A Husband" from 1917. It's beautifully illustrated, but yeah, a woman's role has changed quite a bit since then. I have all the old Peg Bracken books and they are a hoot! There are many more oldies-but-goodies that I treasure, and the next time I make a recipe from one of them, I'll post it.

I remember the time I found one little strawberry plant on a hillside in New Hampshire. It was like finding a jewel. I grow alpine strawberries in containers here in the city, but I still don't get very many of them.

My kits are Plus Four and Captain Jack. They wish they could go hiking with you too!

I wish you weren't across the continent because I could always use a new hiking buddy..
I love your cookbook collection also I picked up a bunch a while ago at a garage sale ..I also was cracking up from all the titles and how women were represented LOL

Thia.. So glad to have you here with your kitties.. Yes I do forage and went last year with some mushroom experts after a heavy rain because I was wanting to feel safer picking them
being a horticulturist I am always picking up seeds and seedlings and also propagating from existing plants. I was able to get enough of these adorable tiny wild strawberries that I just noticed coming up on my berm at the side of my house
Our state also has cranberry bogs further south so that is a fun day picking cranberries also
My cats are named Merlin, Mojo, Mishu and Piwacket..
keep in touch and we will keep sharing..June

Hi, Zena824! I'm happy that you like my little drawing of a cat-rice-ball. Your butterfly and flowers picture is very pretty.

I like your pix...
