Szegediner Gulasch

This is my version of this great Hungarian dish. It is not traditional, but pretty good. Serve it with boiled potatoes or a good French bread.

Popcorn

I know it is silly to post this but, I love popcorn and sometimes just can't get enough of it. I tried this once using olive oil instead of vegetable oil and have stuck with it. Olive oil gives a really nice and different flavor to popcorn.

An Interesting Website

Since there isn't really a way to post this sort of thing other than putting it up as a recipe, I decided to put it here. It is a really useful website for people who are having a financial crisis and are looking for some real suggestions to get through it.

Apple Pie Filling

This is my version of pie filling. I like to use braeburn apples because their flavor is so good. I use a bit less cinnamon because I like that flavor in the background so that it doesn't cover the flavor of the apples. I know the picture doesn't look very professional, but the flavor of this pie is really wonderful.

Flaky Pie Crust

I am convinced that most people stopped making pie crusts at home because it is a really time consuming operation. In spite of that, I make my own pie crust because NOTHING is as good as a good homemade crust. This is a method that uses the idea of making puff pastry, but takes a little less time and produces a really flaky crust. The picture is the rolled butter. I have also posted my version of an apple pie filling.

Navy Bean Salad

I came up with this after watching someone make a garbanzo bean salad. I don't care much for them except as hummus or felafel(and I am crazy about both of these foods), so I wanted to make something that I thought would work.

Brussel Sprouts

A simple dish with one of my favorite vegetables. If you can't get creme fraiche easily, you can substitute cream cheese. The flavor is a little less tangy, but the creaminess is important here.

Tomato Sauce Alla Napolitana

I saw this on TV the a couple of night ago. It seemed so easy, I thought I would share it. The lady who cooked it used fresh, organic San Marzano tomatoes from the family's tomato farm. Since I didn't have San Marzano, tomatoes, I used organic tomato puree. Be sure that you use a good puree that is not too watery or you will have to let it reduce longer. You can use, dried basil, but you will have to add it with the tomato puree. It is traditional to serve this without parmesan cheese.
