Curried Chicken Stew

Its getting cooler outside, which means two things to me- hot chocolate and stew, though not yet in the same bowl (there's an idea for you). I tend to be bad at repeating recipes, but I like this one enough to try it more than once. I thought the orange would add a nice sweetness and acidity to an otherwise spicy and savory dish. And I thought I'd share, 'cuz I'm just that nice.

Not-quite-red-more-like-tan Velvet Cake

My girlfriend and I tried making a red velvet cake. The problem is, it wasn't even close to red, and didn't taste much like any velvet cake I've ever had... it was, however, quite tasty, so I'm just as glad that it didn't come out right.

Carrot Cake

This is a recipe that my mom got from a cookbook featuring recipes from restaurants around Philadelphia (given that the cook book is over 21 years old, most of the restaurants seem to have moved on). I changed a few things, and made it for my dad's birthday.

Asian-y Beef Stroganoff

I'm Jewish so I can't eat real beef stroganoff (dairy and meat together), and my girlfriend is Korean, so she doesn't usually like rich, creamy foods. More importantly, I didn't have any of those things in my fridge anyway. What I did have was some peanut butter, soy sauce and a 3 pound chuck roast.

Beer-flavored Oatmeal

Being a recently 21-year-old college student, I have some beer in my fridge, and I happened to have half a bottle from the other night. Anyway, I ate a huge dinner last night and decided I ought to eat something a little less... meat-tastic for breakfast, so I decided on oatmeal. The two just seemed to work together. Good for college students.

Beef Stew

The recipe evolved out of a matter of necessity coupled with couriosity. I'm a college student, and soups and stews are easy/cheap to make. I usually eat it by itself or with a dollop of dijon mustard on top.

(Note: I've changed the time based on how long it took me last night, which is longer than the previous time... or seems like it anyway.)
