Egg Nog Circa 1946

Tried my hand at a home-made egg nog last night, using this recipe from the Womans Home Companion Cook Book (pub. 1946). It was reeeaal nice :) not too dense, doesnt have that raw egg taste about it, and the fluffy whites on top are a nice addition i wouldnt have thought of doing. I just used some of it today to make egg nog fudge, which has turned out superb :)

Toffee-topped Christmas Fruit Slice

My goodness this is freaking amazing! a rich and buttery shortbread base with a christmasy filling of dried fruit with a hint of brandy, and, to top it all off, the crackly crunch of bitter-sweet toffee. A little bit different to the usual fruit mince slice or tarts, very impressive. A good one to contribute to xmas gatherings. Originally from The Biscuit and Slice Bible. (highly recommended) ; )

Magnificent Pumpkin Turtle Chezcak

This is my own recipe. We had a thanksgiving dinner the other day and i served this for dessert. Everyone was VERY impressed. Jeremy's Nan wants the recipe. As with all my cheesecakes, i used yoghurt cheese (drained yoghurt) to lower the fat content, but you can use regular cream cheese and get the same result, with a few bonus calories.

Goodie Banana Cake With Killer Caramel Icing

So i just made this last night because it was my dogs birthday. Everyone had seconds. Except my dog, because i wouldnt allow it. This is a nice dense loaf-type cake. Healthy enough too, you can use all wholemeal or all plain flour if you want.

Zoes Mums Boiled Mayo

Mum's mum's recipe for old-fashioned boiled mayonnaise. Im not a huge fan of the regular out-the-jar type mayo, but this stuff is the shizzzz. Perfect for cold potato & egg salads, or an a chicken sangwich. I just had a go at making it for the first time just now, thinking it'd be tricky but it came out MEGA PERFECT. No lumps or anything. and its CHEAP and you always have the stuff on hand and seriously takes like 5 minutes. Its the best, Jerry, the best. Make some now.

Based on a recipe i found in "the Delights of Russian Cuisine". This is a fat-free, cane sugar-free cake/slice that is great for tea/coffee breaks. Has a chewey, gingerbread-like texture and keeps well for a few days.

Nifty Mac And Cheese For Grown Ups

So i made mine with dinosaur-shaped pasta, which probablly detracts a bit from the "grown up" aspect of this, but im not a grown up so NYEAH.
Anyway, this is a little bit diferent recipe for mac and chez, more interesting than the stuff you make from the packet as a kid, but im sure the little ones'd love this one too. Serves 4 with a good leafy salad.
