Miso Vinaigrette

I had a bunch of miso a while back and didn't really know what to do with it. After a bit of researching, I decided to make a vinaigrette with it - and since that day, I've never been a day without some in my fridge.

The recipe breaks down to 1 part miso, 3 parts vinegar (rice/balsamic or any combo), and 3 parts oil (olive or a combo of olive & sesame). This yields an particularly vinegary taste, so change proportions to suit your preferences.

Easy Italian Pasta Salad

I made up this recipe for a family barbeque and it's been requested at everyone ever since! It's also great for potlucks because it makes so much. I'm a 'dump' cook, and add a 'little of this, a little of that', so add/subtract ingredients to your taste.

Fluffy Blintzes

Enjoyed at Shavout when the people who practice Judaism have made it a tradition to have dairy dishes. The word "blin" comes from Old Slavic mlin, that means "to mill", compare the Ukrainian word for blin млинець, mlynets’. Blins had a somewhat ritual significance for early Slavic peoples in pre-Christian times since they were a symbol of the sun, due to their round form. They were traditionally prepared at the end of the winter to honor the rebirth of the new sun (Pancake week, in Russian Масленица). This tradition was adopted by the Orthodox church and is carried on to the present day. Bliny are also served at wakes, to commemorate the recently deceased.

Blins were borrowed into Yiddish as בלינצע (blintse) and came into English in the form of "blintz".

Honey-sweet Granola

A quick, somewhat healthy granola that works just as well with milk as a breakfast cereal as it does in your hand for a healthy snack. I eat it as cereal, on yogurt, and in parfaits; my husband mostly just sticks his hand in the jar that we always have of it and snacks away :-)
