Ammons Kugel - Kugel Yerushalmi

Mal’s old friend postman Ammon Duul once told him about this recipe and gave him a copy. Easy to cook aboard ship, easy to store, with the noodles, oil, sugar, and water all readily available. Ammon said that on Earth that it was called Kugel Yerushalmi. Sweet, peppery, delicious! (Inspired by Joss Whedon’s television show “Firefly” and movie “Serenity.”)

Kaylees Melty Nutritional Yeast Pseudo Cheese Sauce

As much as Kaylee loves hot cheese, sometimes you just can’t get the basic ingredients out In The Black. So this substitution comes in handy then (or whenever you need extra B12 in your diet, for that matter). In any case, it’s tasty. :) You can use it on pizza, in lasagna, wherever you’d normally have melty cheese. Give it a try as a dipper, too! (Inspired by Joss Whedon’s television show “Firefly” and movie “Serenity.” Will appear in the “Big Damn Chefs Rise Again Cookbook.”)

Niska Pulls Em Aparts

We all know about Niska’s favorite sport. This is one way he can blow off steam when there are no prisoners around… (Inspired by Joss Whedon’s television show “Firefly” and movie “Serenity.” Will appear in the “Big Damn Chefs Rise Again Cookbook.”)

Out In The Black Bean Butter

As you probably know, legumes are a staple out In The Black because they’re easy to keep and prepare. You can use either fresh black beans or reconstituted dried ones for this recipe, or even try some other kinds of beans that you have sitting in the galley. It’ll be great with just about any kind of bean, I reckon. Plop it down on crusty bread along with whatever veggies you managed to get when last in port, and/or with any meat you might have and you’ll have a great sandwich. If you have things to dip with, it’s great that way, too. You could even mix it into noodles along with other vegetable stuff. Shiny! (Inspired by Joss Whedon’s television show “Firefly” and movie “Serenity.” Will appear in the “Big Damn Chefs Rise Again Cookbook.”)

Jaynes Apple Pie In A Bottle

Strong like Jayne (as smooth as he'd like to be, and sweeter than he'll ever admit!), here's a drink that's great to take on camping trips with good friends, and perfect for sharing around the campfire. :) This is my own recipe that we take to SCA camping events in the Pacific Northwest (other folks have their "secret" recipes they don't share). You know you have good Apple Pie when you take a sip and you can even taste the crust. (Prep time doesn't include aging.)

Baked Turnip Souffle For Nathan

Delicious all year round, but our family often enjoys this dish for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. As well as being delicious, it's also a good substitute for those folks who're avoiding potatoes. Dedicated to Nathan. :) (Cuz, well, you know... Joss says he smells turnipy.)

Mals Good Dogs

Out in the borderlands sometimes the animal protein that the crew is able to trade for is of dubious quality and/or origin. So long ago, Mal came up with this mixture made from herbs and spices common on most worlds. It can be mixed with pretty much any ground meat from most poultry, mammal, or reptile to give it a delicious taste of sausage. (Recipe makes one 3 Tbsp batch to mix with 1 pound of ground meat. Prep time doesn't include chilling.)
