Classic Croissants

The key to baking croissants is to start with excellent butter. A person CAN tell the difference between regular store bought and European butter. These croissants are very light and flaky. Maybe not a weekly habit to bake but definitely a special occasion habit.

Tiramisu

I would like to add here that the recipe calls for 2 1/2 cups of espresso. PLEASE do not skimp or the flavor will be weak. I asked for 10 double shots of espresso and the dessert was not overpowering in the least. Perfecto! Siovanna ladyfingers are the best. Since I made this, all I can think about is making it again. Now that is a good dessert!

Texacan Layered Salad

This is my version of a Mexican Layered Salad. Always a crowd pleaser! So easy as you can make it ahead of time.

Banana Marble Cake

This was my invention for my friend Magdelena's 15 year work anniversary party. It was a total secret, but it combined two of her favourite flavours - chocolate and banana - and added the benefit of a creamy peanut butter filling and a fudgy mocha frosting! The recipe makes a lot of cake - 2 10" springforms! - so plan accordingly.

Just Plain Old Lasagna

One of my youngest daughter’s favorites, this recipe will yield enough to give you plenty of leftovers if you’re just preparing it for a couple people Use whatever spaghetti sauce you prefer – homemade or jarred – and pump the layers full of meat sauce and ricotta cheese filling. I get 8 “hungry person” servings, or 12 gentler portions – serve it with a nice side salad and plenty of bread sticks or garlic bread. You can assemble lasagna the day before and just pop it in the oven when you’re ready to finish baking it. It’s really such an easy make-ahead meal, I don’t know why I don’t make it more often!

Famous Peoples Carrots

This is my approximation of the roasted carrots that were served as part of the meal at Toronto's Famous People Players. The meals there are cooked and served by individuals with physical and mental disabilities - and if you didn't know ahead of time, you could never tell. There's enough liquid in this recipe that it forms a wonderful sauce... perfect for pouring over a salmon steak and rice for dinner.

Greek Baklavas

My mom used to love baklava, and this is her recipe, although I added nutmeg, and substituted the almonds with pecans and walnuts. I learnt about pecans recently and have been using them often since then and they have become a killer combination in the flaky, sticky pastry.

Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Deborah from Taste and Tell blog found this recipe in the Barefoot Contessa Parties! Cookbook. I made this and could not believe how much flavor along with just how moist this coffeecake is! This is one of those coffeecakes that you can nibble on all weekend. Absolutely delicious =D
