Chocolate Tree-Baum Kuchen

Baum is German for Tree
My mom use to make a similar tree cake that consisted of many more layers than in this recipe. Each layer was baked and removed and the cooled layers were sandwiched with some kind of pastry cream . When the cake was cut, it was unique to look at and layers resembled the rings of a cut tree .
Many recipes have an apricot of chocloate glaze
This recipe comes from Dr Oetker Baking
Please use my posted International conversion chart, if you need help with measurements

Battenberg Cake

The British Royals trace their roots back to Germany, & so does this cake. It was a favourite of Queen Victoria's daughter, Beatrice, who's married name, Battenberg, became Anglicized to Mount Batten.
Recipe and pictures from Better Homes & Gardens, December 1996
This does take a lot of time and patience to make but it is so good!

Marzipan Caramel Apples With Sesame N Almonds

Caramel apples can have many things added to them to take them out of the ordinary. I like this one from CHOW. Caramel-coated Granny Smith gets a roll in a combination of toasted almonds and sesame seeds. Stuffed inside, sweet marzipan (almond paste) with a dash of five-spice powder adds an unexpected twist.

Homemade Marzipan Uncooked

Commercial marzipan is more frequently used for modelling as it is less coarse and less sticky than home made marzipan, therefore easier to work with. Here are some marzipan recipes for all those who want to try and make their own marzipan at home...Marzipan has to have at least 25 % almonds otherwise it is considered almond paste......
this marzipan recipe is good for preparing modelling marzipan
