Butter Pie A Potato And Onion Pie

"Butter Pie", a traditional Lancashire delicacy, or for those not in the know, potato & onion pie, was traditionally served on a Friday so as to comply with the catholic rule of not eating meat on a Friday, with Lancashire being home to many Catholics it was and is a best seller among the small traditional bakeries.

Butter pies have long been a match day favourite among Preston North End fans until 2007 when providers ceased to trade. With the new providers not offering a butter pie this has caused 2 Preston North End fans to begin a campaign on facebook calling for the return of butter pies to the match day menu.

This recipe our version is little dry when compared with some commercially available versions, but we like them a little drier we find the shop bought ones can be far too wet. Although we think ours is very tasty all the same, and of course should be served with HP sauce if liked, pickled red cabbage or beetroot all work well.
Serves:	Might serve 4 if you are lucky
Time: Altogether about 1 hour

Eggs Maryland

This dish was created on a rainy morning in Baltimore using leftover crab meat from the evening before. I was particularly satisfied with this dish and thought I'd share it here. Since the main ingredient, crab, is a favored Maryland staple, I thought I'd give the dish a regional name reflecting it's origin. I'm sure I'm not the first Marylander to serve this breakfast, but I'm probably the first to publically recognize it here. Good eating.

Rojoes Minhota - Try To Say It If You Are Not Portuguese

This dish was served in years gone by, in winter, when the farmers slaughtered their pigs. The meat had to be fresh, and the only way to preserve it was in salt. Nowadays, fresh pork is widely available, so it can be made al year round. It is traditional from the region where I live, and in fact, people travel great distances to come and enjoy it in Ponte de lima, where it is particularly famous. Usually served with Arroz de Sarrabulho (a rice dish made amongst other things, with the pig's blood), I prefer to give it a miss and serve it with sautéed or roast potatoes.

If you go to a church charity dinner,or Sunday lunch here in the Isle of Man you are sure to find that 75% of the time you will be tucking into Lancashire Hotpot! It's delicious winter food, but you can have it year round. It's slow baked, so you can put it in the oven in the morning,, set the timer, then when you get home you can finish up the last 30 minutes of baking.
