Mashed Sweet Potatoes With Oatmeal Cookie Topping

This is a great alternative to marshmallow topped sweet potatoes. Cutting the sweet potatoes into slices of even thickness is important in getting them to cook at the same rate. A potato masher will yield slightly lumpy sweet potatoes; a food mill will make a perfectly smooth puree. You can also skip the cookie topping and just serve the sweet potatoes on their own.

Whacky Baked Carrot And Turnip Fries

A nice alternative to regular french fries, these are made w/ turnips and carrots! They are coated with a bit of parmesan and seasoning and baked. Healthier than fried french fries and delicious too. Serve with garlic aioli, marinara sauce, tzaziki, ranch, onion dip -- anything you like -- although these are fantastic on their own!!!

Root Beer Barbecued Chicken

Great for the summer barbecue
:I altered the barbecue sauce/chicken recipe slightly from a Bon Appetit magazine article. I did not marinade or smoke the chicken but grilled parts on low heat - brushing the chicken pieces liberally as I turned them. It takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes to cook done on a low heat gas grill. Watch carefully to prevent over charring of chicken parts.
