Step #1 To make the bread: Preheat the oven to 350°.
Step #2 Grease & flour bottom & halfway up the sides of an 8x4x2inch loaf pan; set aside.
Step #3 In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter or margarine & the 1 c granulated sugar together with an electric mixer until fluffy.
Step #4 Add the eggs & the 1 tsp lemon peel.
Step #5 Beat the mixture well.
Step #6 Stir together the flour & baking powder.
Step #7 Add the flour-baking powder mixture to the sugar mixture alternately with the milk, beating well after each addition.
Step #8 Stir in the sliced pecans.
Step #9 Spread the batter in the prepared loaf pan & bake in the 350° oven for 55 to 60 mins or until a wooden toothpick inserted near the center of the bread comes out clean.
Step #10 If necessary, cover the bread with aluminum foil wrap for the last 15 mins of baking to prevent overbrowning.
Step #11 Meanwhile, to make the Lemon Glaze: Stir together the 1/4 c granulated sugar, the lemon juice & the 1 tsp lemon peel.
Step #12 Spoon the Lemon Glaze over the hot bread.
Step #13 Cool in the pan for 10 mins.
Step #14 A very nice bread!Remove the bread from the pan & cool on a wire rack.
Step #15 To make the Orange Cream Cheese: In a small bowl, powdered sugar, stir this together the cream cheese, orange juice & orange peel until the mixture is well mixed.
Step #16 Serve the Orange Cream Cheese with the Lemon Tea Bread.
