Chocolate Cherry Bars Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c unsweetened baking cocoa .
  • 1 tsp almond extract .
  • 2 c semi-sweet chocolate chips .
  • 2 c all-purpose flour .
  • 1 egg, slightly beaten .
  • 1 c cold butter .
  • 1 (21 oz) can cherry pie filling .
  • 1 c sliced almonds .
  • 1 c sugar

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #2 Lightly grease a 13" x 9" baking pan.
  • Step #3 In mixing bowl, sugar, mix flour, & cocoa.
  • Step #4 Cut in butter with pastry mixer or fork until crumbly.
  • Step #5 Add egg & almond extract until mixed; set aside 1 c of this mixture for topping.
  • Step #6 Press remaining crumb mixture into the prepared 13"x9" inch pan.
  • Step #7 Carefully top evenly with pie filling.
  • Step #8 Combine chocolate chips & almonds, with the 1 c reserved crumb mixture; sprinkle it over pie filling.
  • Step #9 Bake at 350 for 35-40 mins or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  • Step #10 Cool then put in the fridge for at least 2 hrs before cutting.
