Ingredients
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom .
  • 1 1/4 c sugar .
  • 2 c water .
  • 1 tbsp rose water .
  • 5 green cardamom pods .
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg .
  • 1/2 c basmati rice .
  • 1/4 c blanched slivered almonds .
  • 2 quarts milk

Directions
  • Step #1 Boil in the water over med-heat/flame for 5 to 6 mins, until the rice is one quarter done.
  • Step #2 Drain in a colander.
  • Step #3 In a saucepan, bring the milk & cardamom pods to a boil over med-heat/flame.
  • Step #4 Add the rice & reduce heat to a low simmer.
  • Step #5 Cook for 30 to 40 mins, until the rice is soft & the milk is very thick.
  • Step #6 Keep stiring to incorparate the starch from the rice into the milk & to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
  • Step #7 Add the sugar, & nutmeg & cook for another 5 mins, almonds, ground cardamom, stirring constantly.
  • Step #8 Remove from the heat.
  • Step #9 Sprinkle top with the rose water.
  • Step #10 Serve warm or chilled in dessert bowls.
