Step #1 Place pecans & almonds In a large-ish bowl; stir in the 1 c sugar & 4 c warm water.
Step #2 Let stand 10 mins.
Step #3 Drain well; return to bowl.
Step #4 Pour butter over nuts, stirring to coat.
Step #5 Stir together remaining 1/2 c sugar, & next 4 ingredients; pour over nut mixture, chili powder, tossing to coat.
Step #6 Spread in a single layer on a 15- x 10-inch jellyroll pan.
Step #7 Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 mins, stirring every once in awhile.
Step #8 Arrange in a single layer on wax paper, & let cool.
Step #9 Store in an airtight container.
