Irish Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c shortening
  • 1/4 c butter or margarine
  • 1 c raisins
  • 1 1/4 c milk
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 2 tbsps baking powder
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 2 large eggs

Directions
  • Step #1 Combine first 4 ingredients in a bowl.
  • Step #2 Cut shortening & butter into flour mixture with a pastry mixer or fork until mixture is crumbly.
  • Step #3 Stir in raisins.
  • Step #4 Whisk together milk, & vinegar; add to flour mixture, eggs, stirring just until moistened.
  • Step #5 Pour batter into a greased 10 1/2-inch cast-iron skillet.
  • Step #6 Bake at 350° for 35 to 40 mins.
  • Step #7 NOTE: Bread also may be baked in 2 greased 8-inch round cakepans for 30 to 35 mins.
