Raised Doughnuts Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 tbsps sugar
  • 3 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 c shortening, melted
  • 1 (1/4-oz) envelope active dry yeast
  • 1 c warm water (100° to 110°)
  •  Vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 c powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Stir together first 3 ingredients In a large-ish glass bowl; let this stand 5 mins.
  • Step #2 Stir in flour & next 3 ingredients until mixed.
  • Step #3 Pat or roll dough to 1/8-inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2-inch round cutter.
  • Step #4 Let stand 45 mins.
  • Step #5 Pour oil to a depth of 2 inches into a Dutch oven; heat to 375°.
  • Step #6 Fry doughnuts, in batches, 1 min on each side or until golden.
  • Step #7 Remove with a slotted spoon; drain on paper towels.
  • Step #8 Roll doughnuts in powdered sugar.
  • Step #9 Prep: 15 min.
  • Step #10 , Stand: 50 min.
  • Step #11 , Cook: 2 min.
