Ingredients
6 tbsps butter .
3 c milk .
12 tbsps sugar .
1 1/2 tsps vanilla .
3 c sugar .
4 tbsps flour or 3 tbsps cornstarch .
MERINQUE .
1/2 tsp cream of tartar .
6 large eggs, separated .
1 tsp vanilla .
4 1/2 tbsps cocoa .
1 dash salt .
6 large egg whites
Directions
Step #1 Mix sugar, cocoa, salt & cornstarch together.
Step #2 Add milk & slightly beaten egg yolks.
Step #3 Cook over med-heat/flame stirring constantly until mixture thickens.
Step #4 Set aside & add butter & vanilla mix well.
Step #5 Pour into 2 baked 9" pie shells.
Step #6 MERINQUE.
Step #7 Beat egg whites & cream of tarter til foamy, then add sugar 1 tbsp at a time til soft peaks form; add vanilla till well mixed, spoon on top of pies & bake in 350° oven til evenly browned about 15 mins.
