Dee's Date And Nut Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 3/4 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsps baking soda
  • 1 c sliced walnuts
  • 1 1/2 c hot water
  • 1 c white sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 c dates, pitted & sliced
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Grease loaf pan.
  • Step #3 Pour the hot water over the dates & let this stand until cooled.
  • Step #4 Sift the flour & baking soda together add the sugar & salt.
  • Step #5 Stir in the cooled dates & water.
  • Step #6 Add the melted butter, beaten egg vanilla & walnuts.
  • Step #7 Mix well.
  • Step #8 Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Step #9 Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 1 hr or until a toothpick insert near the center comes out clean.
  • Step #10 Let bread cool in pan for 10 mins.
  • Step #11 Remove bread from pan & let cool on a wire rack.
