Ingredients
  • 2 tbsps water .
  • 4 oz honey .
  • 3 1/2 oz Crisco .
  • 1 oz salt .
  • poppy seeds (optional) .
  • sesame seeds (optional) .
  • 1 quart water, tepid .
  • 2 oz powdered milk .
  • 1 oz yeast .
  • 2 eggs .
  • 2 oz brown sugar .
  • 3 1/2 lbs bread flour

Directions
  • Step #1 weigh ingredients & add water.
  • Step #2 I mix it on a 20qt mixer for 15 mins.
  • Step #3 flip the dough & mix for another 5 mins.
  • Step #4 let rest covered until double (optional).
  • Step #5 mix the egg & 2 tbsps of water well to make egg wash.
  • Step #6 pre heat oven to 325.
  • Step #7 divide dough into 6(16oz) portions form in traditional braid or loaves.
  • Step #8 use egg wash to coat loaves.
  • Step #9 proof until touched lightly leaves indent but do not let it double in size it will rise in oven.
  • Step #10 recoat with egg wash right before placing in oven (top this with seeds at this time).
  • Step #11 bake approximately 20 mins turning 180 degrees after 13 mins.
  • Step #12 It will be a nice golden brown on top & a lighter brown on the bottom.
  • Step #13 This bread freezes well & is great to have on hand for company or gifts.
  • Step #14 Also makes the best french toast! times do not include proofing times.
