Ingredients
1 1/2 c white sugar
3 c milk
2 (1 oz) squares unsweetened chocolate, sliced
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1/3 c cornstarch
4 egg yolks, beaten
3/4 c semisweet chocolate chips
1 (9 inch) pie crust, baked
1/2 tsp salt
Directions
Step #1 Combine sugar, cornstarch, & salt in a 2-quart saucepan.
Step #2 Stir in milk slowly.
Step #3 Add chocolate chips & unsweetened chocolate.
Step #4 Place over med-heat/flame, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens & boils.
Step #5 Boil & stir 1 min.
Step #6 Place egg yolks in a medium heatproof bowl.
Step #7 Gradually pour half of chocolate mixture into egg yolks, whisking constantly.
Step #8 Whisk egg yolk mixture back into mixture in saucepan.
Step #9 Place over med-heat/flame & bring back to a boil, stirring constantly.
Step #10 Boil & stir 1 min.
Step #11 Remove from heat; stir in the vanilla extract.
Step #12 Pour mixture into baked pie shell.
Step #13 Press a layer of plastic wrap onto filling.
Step #14 Refrigerate at least 4 hrs but no longer than 48 hrs.
Step #15 Remove plastic wrap before serving & top this with whipped topping.
