Chocolate Java Cake Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 tsps baking powder .
  • 2/3 c firmly packed brown sugar .
  • 5 tbsps butter, softened .
  • 1/2 c strong black coffee or espresso .
  • 1 1/2 c white flour, sifted .
  • 2/3 c milk .
  • 1/2 tsp salt .
  • 2/3 c granulated sugar .
  • 2 tbsps coffee-flavored liqueur .
  • 2 eggs .
  • 3 (3 oz) unsweetened chocolate squares

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Step #2 Grease two 8 inch cake pans & dust with flour.
  • Step #3 In the top of a double boiler, over hot, not boiling, water, melt the chocolate with the coffee & brown sugar, cool & add liqueur.
  • Step #4 With an electric mixer, mix the butter & granulated sugar, beating until light.
  • Step #5 Beat in eggs, then the chocolate mixture.
  • Step #6 Add dry ingredients to batter slowly, alternating with milk, until batter is smooth.
  • Step #7 Pour batter into cake pans & bake on middle rack for 15-20 mins, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Step #8 Remove from oven & cool before removing from pans.
  • Step #9 Spread your favorite chocolate icing & perhaps garnish with chocolate covered coffee beans.
