Ingredients
salt & pepper to taste
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 onion, sliced
2 1/8 c all-purpose flour
1/2 c water
2 tbsps milk
1 1/4 lbs rump roast, cubed
1/2 c butter, sliced
2 small carrots
2 potatoes, peeled & sliced
Directions
Step #1 In a small saucepan, cover carrots with water.
Step #2 Bring water to a boil & cook this until tender, about 10 mins.
Step #3 Let cool & slice.
Step #4 Sift flour, salt, & baking powder together in a bowl.
Step #5 Add butter, & rub to the consistency of coarse crumbs.
Step #6 Mix in water.
Step #7 If dough is sticky, add more flour.
Step #8 Roll dough out until about 1/4 inch thick.
Step #9 Cut out six circles, each about 5 inches round.
Step #10 Do not stretch the dough.
Step #11 Mix meat & vegetables together, & salt & pepper to taste.
Step #12 Cover half of each pasty base with the filling.
Step #13 Moisten pastry edges, fold pastry over the filling.
Step #14 Press edges together with a fork.
Step #15 Transfer raw pasties to a baking sheet, brush tops with milk, & make a small slit in each top to allow steam out.
Step #16 Bake at 450 degrees F ( 230 degrees C) for 10 mins.
Step #17 Turn oven down to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), & bake for 35 mins.
