Faust Nachts Recipe

Ingredients
  • 8 c flour .
  • 1 quart canola oil .
  • 1/4 lb powdered sugar .
  • 2 3/4 c milk (2% or whole) .
  • 4 eggs .
  • 2 compressed yeast cakes (sub ( 2 3/4 packets) .
  • 1 tbsp salt .
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar .
  • 1 c unsalted butter (not margarine)

Directions
  • Step #1 Warm 1 c milk.
  • Step #2 Add yeast & sugar.
  • Step #3 Stir & set aside.
  • Step #4 Melt butter.
  • Step #5 Add remaining milk.
  • Step #6 Heat to warm.
  • Step #7 Add slightly beaten eggs.
  • Step #8 Add yeast mixture.
  • Step #9 Add flour, use hole technique, using spoon then hand to mix & kneed until dough does not stick to sides of bowl.
  • Step #10 Add flour if needed.
  • Step #11 Transfer dough, clean bowl, butter bowl with room temperature butter.
  • Step #12 Move dough back to bowl; turning dough to cover in butter.
  • Step #13 Cover up bowl with lightweight, dry towel.
  • Step #14 Set aside for 2 hrs or it doubles in size.
  • Step #15 Punch it, divide it into balls the size of baseballs.
  • Step #16 Set on wooden board.
  • Step #17 Cover up dough balls for about an 1 hr.
  • Step #18 Heat Oil.
  • Step #19 Stretch dough & fry.
  • Step #20 Turn as dough browns.
  • Step #21 Remove when both sides brown.
  • Step #22 Add 1/2 c 10X sugar to doubled, brown shopping bag.
  • Step #23 Place faust nacht in bag & shack.
  • Step #24 Kids love to help in this step.
  • Step #25 Freeze leftovers before sugaring.
