Oatmeal Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 3 c water .
  • 1/2 c warm water .
  • 6-6 1/2 c flour .
  • 3 tsps salt .
  • 2 (1/4 oz) packages dry yeast .
  • 2 tbsps butter .
  • 2/3 c brown sugar .
  • 3 c rolled oats

Directions
  • Step #1 Dissolve the yeast in the warm water & proof for a few mins while you get the rest ready.
  • Step #2 In a pan, place the water & salt & bring to a boil; add the rolled oats, but do not boil.
  • Step #3 Stir in & cool to lukewarm the brown sugar & butter.
  • Step #4 When lukewarm, stir in the the yeast mixture & mix well.
  • Step #5 Add the flour slowly until the dough is a good consistency to knead.
  • Step #6 Knead 100 times.
  • Step #7 Let rise in a greased bowl until double (about 1 1/2 hrs).
  • Step #8 Punch down & divide in half.
  • Step #9 Put each half in a greased bread pan.
  • Step #10 Rise again for about 1 hr or until almost double in size.
  • Step #11 Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 mins, putting foil wrap on top after about 25-30 mins to prevent it browning too much.
