Apple Dumplings Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 tb White vinegar; & enough water
  • === DOUGH ===
  • 1 ts Lemon
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • Powdered sugar; in a shaker
  • 1/2 ts Nutmeg
  • 1 tb Cinnamon
  • To fill 3/4 c measurement
  • 1 1/2 c Shortening
  • 4 Granny Smith apples; peeled, sliced, & tossed with the
  • 1/2 c Sugar
  • 3 c Flour
  • 1 c Hot water
  • 1 Egg; beaten with
  • 1 tb Flour
  • === GLAZE ===
  • 1 c Unsalted butter
  • 3 tb Unsalted butter; softened
  • 1 ts Salt

Directions
  • Step #1 preheat your trusty oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #2 Butter the bottom of a 9-inch by 11-inch cake pan.
  • Step #3 Make pie crust: mix flour & salt.
  • Step #4 Using a pastry cutter or large fork, cut shortening into flour mixture.
  • Step #5 Work water mixture into flour mixture.
  • Step #6 You will end up with a nice firm pastry.
  • Step #7 put in the fridge for 20 mins.
  • Step #8 Make apple filling: Mix apples with cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • Step #9 Working on a lightly floured surface, roll dough out into a 18-inch by 12-inch rectangle.
  • Step #10 Using a palette knife, spread the softened butter over the surface of the pastry.
  • Step #11 Sprinkle top apples all over the pastry, as evenly as possible.
  • Step #12 Begin rolling up pastry, starting with the 18-inch side of the pastry in front of you.
  • Step #13 Roll as tight as possible.
  • Step #14 Crimp the finished edges of the pastry closed as well as the ends.
  • Step #15 Cut this log into 1 1/2-inch by 2-inch pieces.
  • Step #16 Place cut side down into the buttered pan, placing the pieces close together.
  • Step #17 place this in oven & bake for 30 mins.
  • Step #18 Make the glaze: mix ingredients for the glaze in a small pot.
  • Step #19 Mix well & bring to a boil.
  • Step #20 Pour this mixture over the pan of dumplings when 5 mins remain in the cooking time.
