Cornbread Oyster Dressing Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 lb Smoked Sausage; sliced
  • 2 Cloves Garlic; Minced
  • 1 1/2 c Low Salt Chicken Broth
  • 1/2 ts Bay Leaves; Minced
  • 3 c Green Onions; sliced
  • 2 Boxes Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix
  • 3 c Red Bell Pepper; sliced
  • 1 ts Ground Allspice
  • 1 c Celery; sliced
  • 4 Eggs; Beaten
  • 2 ts Rubbed Sage
  • 1 c Yellow Onions; sliced
  • 6 tb Unsalted Butter
  • 1/2 ts Cayenne Pepper
  • 2 ts Thyme

Directions
  • Step #1 Cook corn muffins according to box directions.
  • Step #2 Cool, crumble and toast on a sheet pan in the oven at 350 until slightly dry and golden.
  • Step #3 Transfer to a large bowl & cool.
  • Step #4 Melt butter in large heavy dutch oven over high heatbsp.
  • Step #5 Add the next 11 ingredients (everything except for the eggs & chicken broth) and saut? until just tender & slightly moistbsp.
  • Step #6 stir in theto bread crumbs & mix well.
  • Step #7 Mix beaten eggs into stuffing.
  • Step #8 TO BAKE IN TURKEY: Add 1/2 c chicken broth to stuffing & mix well.
  • Step #9 Stuff cavity of bird lightly & roastbsp.
  • Step #10 stir in theto remaining stuffing enough broth to make it slightly moistbsp.
  • Step #11 Bake in a buttered baking dish for approximately 30 mins or until heated through.
  • Step #12 TO BAKE SEPARATELY: preheat your trusty oven to 350 degrees.
  • Step #13 Butter a 13 x 9 inch baking dish.
  • Step #14 Add 1 1/2 c broth to stuffing & bake this until firm and heated through.
