Ingredients
  • 1/2 ts Ground Nutmeg
  • 2 tb Brown sugar
  • 3/4 ts Ground Ginger
  • 1/8 ts Salt
  • 6 md Baking Apples; peeled and cored
  • 1/3 c Butter or Margarine; softened
  • 3/4 c Brown Sugar; firmly packed
  • 1 1/2 ts Ground Cinnamon
  • 3/4 c All-purpose Flour; sifted
  • Whipped Cream; optional garnish

Directions
  • Step #1 Pre-heat the oven to 350-F degrees & select a baking dish that is just large enough to securely hold the half-dozen apples.
  • Step #2 In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter or margarine and three-quarter c brown sugar until well-mixed.
  • Step #3 stir in the the sifted flour, & salt, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, then mix well again.
  • Step #4 Finish preparing the apples by deeply scoring the outside of each piece of fruit with a fork.
  • Step #5 Press the sugar-and-butter-mixture all over the outside of each apple, placing it in the baking dish as you work.
  • Step #6 Press the mixture firmly enough onto each apple to make the concoction stick to the fruit.
  • Step #7 Sprinkle top the remaining two tbsps of brown sugar over the top of the apples after all are placed in the baking dish.
  • Step #8 Bake for about 45 mins, or until the apples are tender & the outside has baked crisp.
  • Step #9 Serve warm with whipped cream, if desired.
