Basic Pita Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c Flour
  • 1/3 c Crisco chilled
  • 1/4 ts Salt
  • 2 tb Water

Directions
  • Step #1 Either by hand or in a processor cut shortening into the flour and salt until fine crumbs.
  • Step #2 Add water 1T at a time until a ball forms.
  • Step #3 Wrap in plastic & chill for one hr.
  • Step #4 Roll out to fit a 9" pie pan.
  • Step #5 bake this at 425F for 10-12 mins or leave unbaked if oie recipe calls for unbaked shell.
  • Step #6 exchange: 1 bread 1 fat recipe makes enough for 8 servings (shell alone 120 calories per serving).
