Cabbage Patch Stew Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1/2 c Sliced celery
  • 15 oz Can kidney beans, drained
  • 16 oz Can stewed tomatoes,
  • 2 ts Chili powder
  • 1 1/2 c Coarsely sliced cabbage
  • 1/4 ts Pepper
  • 1 c Water
  • Undrained
  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 1 Recipe Cheese Dumplings
  • 2 md Onions, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 ts Salt

Directions
  • Step #1 Cook ground beef in Dutch oven, stirring every once in awhile, until brown; drain.
  • Step #2 stir in the cabbage, celery & onions.
  • Step #3 Cook stirring every once in awhile, until vegetables are light brown.
  • Step #4 stir in the remaining ingredients.
  • Step #5 Heat to boiling; reduce heat.
  • Step #6 While beef mixture is simmering, prepare Cheese Dumplings (see recipe).
  • Step #7 Drop dumpling dough by 10 to 12 spoonfuls onto hot beef mixture (do not drop directly into liquid).
  • Step #8 Cook uncovered 10 mins.
  • Step #9 Cover & cook 10 mins longer.
