Cola Basted Ham Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c packed light brown sugar
  • 10 lbs pre-cooked ham
  • 6 c cola-flavored carbonated beverage
  • 1 tbsp mustard powder
  • 2 tbsps Dijon-style prepared mustard
  • 2 c dried bread crumbs

Directions
  • Step #1 Preheat oven to 325F degrees (165 degrees C).
  • Step #2 Place ham fat side down in a shallow pan.
  • Step #3 Pour cola into pan 1/2 inch deep.
  • Step #4 Bake 2 to 3 hrs, or until ham can easily be pierced with a fork, basting with cola every 15 mins.
  • Step #5 Center of ham will read 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) on a meat thermometer.
  • Step #6 Remove ham from pan & cool.
  • Step #7 Increase oven temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Step #8 Cut away the rind with a sharp knife.
  • Step #9 Combine sugar, mustard, bread crumbs & enough cola to form a thick paste.
  • Step #10 Spread paste over entire ham.
  • Step #11 Place ham on roasting rack in oven & bake 45 mins longer, basting every 10 mins, until mustard paste has melted into a dark glaze.
  • Step #12 Let stand at about room temp 30 mins before slicing.
