Step #1 In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy.
Step #2 Add cream of tartar; beat until soft peaks form.
Step #3 slowly add sugar, 1 tbsp.
Step #4 at a time, beating until very stiff peaks form.
Step #5 Cover a baking sheet with foil or parchment paper.
Step #6 Spoon meringue onto foil.
Step #7 Using the back of a spoon, form meringue into a 9 inch heart shape, building up the edges slightly.
Step #8 bake this at 275F for 1 1/2 hrs.
Step #9 Turn oven off & do not open door.
Step #10 Let cool in oven for 1 hr.
Step #11 remove this from the oven; cool completely.
Step #12 In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, sugar & vanilla until smooth.
Step #13 Fold in whipped cream until mixture is well mixed.
Step #14 To serve, place heart on a serving platter; fill with cream cheese mixture & top this with pie filling.
Step #15 Yield 6 servings.
