Chocolate Tea Bread Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 c semisweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 c sliced walnuts
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • 1/2 c applesauce
  • GLAZE:
  • 1 1/4 c sugar
  • 1/3 c shortening
  • 1/2 c confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/3 c baking cocoa
  • 1/3 c water

Directions
  • Step #1 In a mixing bowl, shortening, mix applesauce, eggs, water & sugar; beat on lowish speed for 30 seconds.
  • Step #2 Combine dry ingredients; add to applesauce mixture.
  • Step #3 Beat on low for 30 seconds.
  • Step #4 Beat on high for 2-1/2 mins, scraping bowl every once in awhile.
  • Step #5 Fold in the chocolate chips & nuts.
  • Step #6 Pour into a greased & floured 9-in.
  • Step #7 x 5-in.
  • Step #8 x 3-in.
  • Step #9 loaf pan.
  • Step #10 Bake at 350 degrees F for 60-70 mins or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Step #11 Cool in pan 10 mins before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Step #12 Combine glaze ingredients; drizzle over bread.
